Maybe others here know what you're asking but I have to admit that I don't.
One would think that your mechanic would be familiar with his own dial indicator (you noted that the photo wasn't of his) and how to use it. In addition, it seems to make sense that he'd know, or that you could supply, the cam lobe numbers - assuming he's using his indicator to confirm those advertised numbers.

Number I remember is 1.7mm
1.5mm is ok too but shoot for 1.7mm

The CAM manufacturer should have supplied you with the timing specifications.. 1.7mm sounds about right for SC or 964 cams

i agree with the above very much, although i may get critisized. where they ar timed is still very critical, but just make them match in the end. when i say this, if you get one cam to 1.7 and the other to 1.6, try setting the first one to 1.6 so they match.
the cams should be time more so to the cam than what they are in. porsche used several timing specs for the SC cams. others will be able to give you a better idea of which of those would suit this car better. which it comes down to where you want the power band. one other thing, use the red numberson the dial. on my last car, someone set hte cams to .020 on the black scale which was really .080. so my cams where advanced 15 degrees.

SC cams should be timed from 1.1-1,7mm. 1,65 is a good end result for lower torque
