934 stress
I'm stressing about cutting off my fenders and turning my track dog into a 934 replica.. With the value of our cars going up I'm temped to not do it.. What do you guys think it ultimately will do to the value ? This isn't a beauty queen by any means and is primarily a track car.. what do you guys think?

If it were my car, i think i'd start with a 74 - 77 and leave the 930 alone.

Do it.
1) It's a track car. 2) You've got two. 3) It's your car. It will drop the collector value of the car, and values of 930s are likely to increase in value. But I still say do it.

I would leave the 930 untouched and keep it original.

The 80 is a gray market and tracdog to boot....why so many are tracdogs. You already have the "proper" clean 1986 for that rational investment side. Live, enjoy then die. You can't take one collector car with you much less two. |

I wouldn't do it. Get one that has been cut.
As far as grey market concerns. If you ever want to sell it. Sell it overseas, you'll get more out of it.

When I came on this site years ago I caught wind I just missed a protracted discussion (argument) regarding Gray Market cars so I never offered my experience regarding them and that time frame.
I have no doubt there were many cars that were new, "O" miles and would make good collector cars if not for the fact many others were tired, badly abused samples that were trashed then brought to this country and given a new history. I saw it, it happen and I for one believe some were so good at the fraud all suffer(ed) from it. In my opinion none of these cars will ever be investor quality. The practical reason for using your '80 TURBO vs. anything else is cost and in a more fundamental way realism. No your car will not have factory build and racing pedigree but it is a true 930 not a warmed over 911. You will not lose money on the donor car sold as 934, or returned to stock appearance. |

I know of a factory 505 slant with 13k original miles that is a dedicated track car (built motor, gutted interior, cage, seats, big wheels, suspension, etc)
The point is, it's YOUR car... do what YOU want with it. |

I believe my 78 had the flares welded on by the factory.

Well, he asked for opinions! It's really sad to cut any 911 up. But there were so many 74-77 cars out there that will never bring the premium prices that the SC's, Carrera's, and 930's will eventually bring so that's where I would start, plus, from a historical perspective you are more than likely starting with the correct vintage to begin with, as I believe the 934 started with the 75-76 cars, and went until 77???....just sayin.
I have always wanted to buy a 74 and make an 3.0 RSR....

Too simplistic a statement and doesn't recognize all the similar but very different (and expensive) changes.
Sounds to me like "Well, Cameron Diaz and Melissa McCarthy both started as female fetuses". 930 TURBO is much more than a 911 option package. |

I thought of you with this thread. If you could do it with yours, Todd can certainly do it with his.

As a real trac dog chances are something is going to get wadded up... Especially if youre really pushing it. Ever clip a cone at 50, 80, 100 mph? That'll do enough damage that a good body body guy will pick up on, shoot, a wannabe AJ Foyt will try to squeeze you in the corner or punt you from behind. You can either wait until this happens, or go for it now and enjoy. Head out to the vintage races, see what happens to the rare cars sometimes, they get fixed, they still command premiums.
