rocker shaft removal #1, #4
Hey guys
In the middle of cam replacement...first time... - 930 to SC. All rockers and shafts are out except for #1 and #4 exhaust. Easy tap out for #2 - 5 ..no issues. Not enough clearance against cam housings to tap out from back to front through bores for #1 and #4. I was able to push out #1 and #4 intakes opposite way with a little leverage using socket and shortened hex key. No problem. #1 and #4 exhaust are tight. Any ideas...or do the the cam housings have to come off for clearance and then tap out back to front. ![]()

You have to rotate the engine similar to dong a valve adjustment. If you don't, some will come out, others will not. It you rotate every whatever degrees, like valve adjustment, it will work beautifully.
I think this is your problem I hope.

Thanks for the post runner. Not the issue. Rocker is unbolted and adjusted loose. Nut, collar, bolt are out.

Bummer, take a blunt end shaft and use a hammer to nudge it out? Be carefull you don't want to damage the wall/bore. I'd leave the bolt in it. If it breaks those parts are replaceable.

Did it. Same way as #1 and #4 intakes. Used a spring puller to catch the inside ridge of the rocker shaft and pull....carefully....with the shaft of a screwdriver through the puller handle and levered against one of the valve cover studs. Pulled into valley between #4,#5 and #1,2 and popped out.
I wrapped the tip of the puller with shop towel for grip and minimizing damage. 2nd pic shows the orientation on #4 exhaust. (popped the shaft back in for the pic rocker was out from before) ![]() ![]()
