rims for a 930

I need to replace my 15" BBS on my 84 930 slant. I have seen some nice RUF rims out there from some fellow pelicans but i just dont want to spend that much... Im cheap! have been looking at the FUCHS that come up for sale and they are starting to grow on me. whats your guys opinions on rims for a 930 slant and i am confused on the sizes available and offset for the FUCHS. any advice is always appreciated.

John

John, I agree that the Fuchs and the larger sidewalls look best on our cars, although the Rufs do look good too. But I just took my stock 7 & 9" Fuchs and set them to the side for larger, heavier rims that offer better tire choices. There's a reason there are several "where to buy 245-45-16" threads. I am keeping my Fuchs to swap back to them now and then for the look and when the tires become available again.
What I'm saying is if you are buying rims, you should probably think twice about getting into 16" rims at this point. Several outfits make larger hoops for stock centers, but you said you were cheap.

I put factory FUCHS back on my car as I had issues with sourcing the 345/35 R15 tires I had on the rear (GOTTI Gold Center 3-pc wheels).

I didn't like the look of the FUCHS on the car at first, but they have started to grow on me. I ended up getting a smokin' deal on them and there is absolutely no damage to any of the 4 wheels. They are straight and true. Good enough to have all the weights hidden on the inside of the rims. I do like the finish on real FUCHS wheels. I grew up with only exposure to fake FUCHS wheels and these are vastly higher quality.

Try the FUCHS. I think you will like them. If not, resell them. They won't lose value.

how does a 345 fit? wow. thats the problem with rims and tires. i like the look of the BBS but the cost of the rear tires is a bit nuts. i will keep my eyes open, i am just not a huge fan of the newer style rims on our older cars.

I've been running 345's on different widebodies for over 20 years now. I just plain love the look. I did go 17" and 18" for a time with the red rocket as 345's were hard to find, but I came back. Yes they are expensive but they do last a while as I don't get to drive the car nearly as much as I would like.

They dont look much wider than 315 tires I have. There is a lot of variation of what manufactures put as the size and how they measure. Just like the sumitomos that were really thin for 315. But I agree, wide tire looks best on the rear arches

I think that a 930, Slant or otherwise, looks much better with 16" (or 15" like Brian's steamrollers) diameter wheels than it does with 17" or bigger - absolutely no comparison for me.

Actual tire sizes due vary by manufacturer. The 315/35-17 BFG TDK's I had on the red rocket had a tread width of 12.5" while the 315/30-18 Pirelli P-Zero's were 12" even. These Pirelli P-Zero 345's are 13.5" tread, same as the Yoko 345's I had on previously. The old Pirelli P7's were a full 3/4" more narrow than the P-Zero's of the same given size, 345/35-15. I've had the 13.5" wide tires on three different cars now and they are maxed out. Oil ines moved, nuts ground down, and lips trimmed to keep rub to a minimum.

Wider = better. Diameter depends on taste and application while maintaining suspension geometry.

Narrower sticky tire would be optimal for performance but not for looks : j

13,5 is a lot of tire, wow.

89 slant. I replaced the 11 x 17s with 9 X16 fuchs. I like it better. I put the 17s on a 92 930 and in my opinion they look more compatable with that later style.

Here are a few shots of the red rocket with different shoes if you'd like to get an idea of what the profiles look like:
> 15" Fuchs, 9&12, 255/45 & 345/35
> 17" Kodiaks 9&11.5, 245/45 & 315/35
> 18" Roocks, 9& 11.5, 245/40 & 315/30

I could not justify the price of the 345's this time around. With wife, kids, house, many other toys, I decided to go back with stock wheels. They are growing on me, but there is just the "look" of 13.5" rear tires on one of these cars.

I think I can get a whole set of rubber now for the price of one of those 345 tires (when they are available).

Back in the day, it appears that 9" front wheels and 11" rear wheels were the thing to do especially if they had gold centers. I'm guessing it was an 80's thing.

I run 275/40 R888 on RUF speedlines and 295/30 pilotsport cups on 18in OZ alleggeritas. Lindseys are for looks with 315 BFGs.

IMO on slant noses RUFs are the golden ticket for looks.

Roland I think you put the front tires on the rear, need to fix that.
