A 2 second Problem
Ive been reading the forums for days trying to find someone who has had this problem, i think details are important but i am very limited as im sleeping in my car at present i cant leave it here on side of road and only have basic tools with me so i am unable to measure or take any readings outside my five senses. I can not go buy a part if any is found to be broken or worn so im hoping for a Mc Guyver miracle. If anyone has seen or had this exact problem please let me know how you fixed it. ![]() Car=1977 3.0 Euro 930 history=hasnt missed a beat since i changed wg about 4 months ago, even then it was fine just going too fast too soon lol I have run out of petrol twice in last 6 months was only time she hasnt run. I have always heard my rear fuel pump buzzing and spitting, sometimes steady sometimes not, in past i checked relays and wired each relay seperately, but never any change, the erratic buzzing always settled down on its own anyway. When i drove to Adelaide 1400k away two or 3 mth ago the monty muffler fell off but thats fixed now.(chewing gum) Now i dont know if any is related but the car started hesitating once or twice then just dying, so i cleaned the ignition bits and now she starts instantly all good, but only for 2 seconds....at every 2 seconds her idle drops about 300 rpm and then recovers like nothing happened, ?? This happens around same interval when i rev the engine when she died under load 2 days ago due to this i checked leads coil which is new and all earths i could find, there is good spark as motor starts in a micro second, but 2 seconds later it dies, the rear fuel pump which i cant find i can hear its whining,wizzing and chirping the sound it makes could be compared to a band of crickets on practice night who had too much to drink at the bees ball and thats conservative, i dont even know if pump is related to the idle good? yes! drop no!,recover Yes bewdy!!,drop NOO! btw i disconnected cdi to validate it was fuel pump and not noisy cdi, Unless theres something else that loud when you turn on ignition? ive seen no animal droppings thankfully I need something to check without using tech stuff, ive got basic tools here only I also have no jack long story Im looking for a most likely culprit, If you have exp or heard of a fix pls let me know. Tell me what to try and ill do it if within my current resources I have an idea what it might be but i need to hear from others as i dont want to send myself on a dirty goose chase with no fix as by the little exp i have i know how wrong i can be im writing this on phone so excuse if i mispelt ![]()

Well...the ip down rpm could be because of rich mix? And the shut down could be from a simple fuse that looses contact. That's all I can help you with without tech tools. The fuse issue is one I had. It was the fuel pump fuse that needed massaging and movement. I ended up bypassing with a newer style fuse block. Good luck

Quattro or anyone with similar car, can you tell me which fuses from the drivers end are the fuel pumps im working in the dark

Mine is not a 930 car. Should be the same though. I think it's the very first one.
The rpm issue sounded to me like a hunting sound. Like it was hunting for a smooth rpm. Up and down then up and down? |

Yes but i find it wierd that it drops revs to exactly same spot everytime,, im checking now

too rich will make revs go up and down.
if you pulled the IC, is it all bolted down and no air leaks? are both fuel pumps running? power to the warm up reg? that can make it run rich. if you messed with the fuel pump wiring you could have done something to the wiring. are all your connected good that you messed with? as mentioned, fuse connections. give them a twist.

What a relief ! it WAS a loose fuse in aftermarket holder, i just stretched the spring to make it snug it had an amazing effect on my spastic fuel pump i think its working properly for the first time
Also for the first time the temp went to 100 degrees, it usually sits on 80, is 100 ok or too high ? my engine is the non ic type Cheers Rob |

Found it, ideal running temp is around 210 farenheit,
Im good to go, suns coming up and ive got over 2000k to get to kalgoorlie Have a good weekend everyone ![]() |
