the most popular 930 78-87 ?
Hello,
on the various vintages 930, from 78 and up to 87 can be assumed based on the 78 model may be the most popular, is that right? |

The 930 was made up to 1989. I have the 1989 930 with the 5 speed G50 box. In my view this is one of the best (but i would say that wouldn't I?)

Oh now that's just absurd, how can a 930 be popular if it doesn't have snorkel headlight warshers? Definitely the bestest and most popular edition are from 78 through mid year 79. W-W-Way before before they hacked up the car with those heavy footwell heaters and nasty 3rd tail light. Every later year is but a pale imitation. +++/sarcasm Last edited by zakthor; 01-29-2014 at 01:28 PM.. Reason: Posting took out my sarcasm tags |

If you live where AC is needed during summer forget about all of them before '86 because there are no side AC ducts on those. That is unless you're dreaming and think the little tiny sliver things on the sides of the lower dash on pre '86 cars actually do anything.
'86 through '89 have nice big square side AC vents that work well. It seems like more AC air comes out of the driver side AC duct than the others and you can aim it. The center dash AC vent is bigger and nicer looking on them too. The '89 is the best because of the one year only Getrag G50-50 5 speed transaxle. The '89 hydraulic operated clutch would be appreciated by most people especially if you put a stronger pressure plate clutch in the car because pedal pressure wouldn't be as stiff as the cable operated clutch in pre '89 cars. In the end it's all personal opinion. |

The point is moot as the OP is asking about the best of the rest. Everyone knows the 3.0 turbos are the best.

This is easy...mine is the most popular
![]() a bit more scientific approach, if I sort this forum by # of views since the beginning of time, this thread is top: Slantnose, Slant nose,Slope, M505 factory 930S documents, registry, ultimate, flachbau suggesting slants are the most popular. Followed by this thread: Project 930 The Resurrection So Lincoln's old GP white ('87 or '88 model year) is the second most popular

78s are a nice transitional model with some influence from the past and some from the next gen into the eighties

History note:
"Changing Japanese and American emissions regulations forced Porsche to withdraw the 930 from those markets in 1980. Believing the 928 would eventually replace the 911, Porsche cut back spending on the 930, and it was not until Fuhrmann’s resignation that the company finally committed the financing to meet US and Japanese regulations. The 930 remained available in Europe, and for 1983 a 325 hp performance option was available on a build-to-order basis from Porsche. The add-on included a 4-pipe exhaust system and an additional oil-cooler requiring a remodeled front spoiler. Units bearing the add-on featured additional ventilation holes in the rear fenders and modified rockers. The mighty 930 returned to America in 1986, and ran through the end of 930 series production in 1989." This is why I like my 1985. ![]() |
