Lesson of the day: set up before the turn.

Sooo the Widowmaker nickname made some more since to me today.

Took quite the spin today.

It wasn't a particularly sharp turn nor was I going too fast. I've taken it faster in the X. But I was accelerating and as the turn began I also began shifting into second, midway through I began loosing it. Acted too slow with the counter steer.

Got very close to a curb but thankfully nothin else around. It wouldn't start for about a minute and I ended up pushing it while trying to start it. Eventually it did. And I got out of there!

Wow. What a close call.
Be in the right gear before the turn. And take the liftoff oversteer warning seriously.

Yes a good warning and nice save.

Good on you for not doing any damage!

I took my 930 out for a spirited drive through some familiar twisties this morning. It was really the hardest I have pushed this car to date. I was VERY conscious of being sure to be setup in each turn. Brake, downshift, crack open the throttle to put the weight bias to the rear, turn, roll on the gas at the apex. Probably overkill, I know. I learned to do the exact same thing at motorcycle roadracing school decades ago... My fear is that I don't really know the limits of this car until after I have passed them and end up spun out, or worse.

I want to get this thing on a track to find out how far I can push without having as much risk as on the street.

In 14 years, I have spun my car once going maybe 35MPH on I would guess a 60 degree turn...very humbling experience!

Never hit the gas until it's pointed the right direction when the turbo kicks in it will spin. I learned that the first time at the track with my one and so far only spin. It was a full 360.The really scary part is seeing all those cars you just passed heading straight for you as you spin around and then seeing them all go by at about 70 and waiting to get plowed into. They all went whizzing by. The instructor calmly looked over at me and said " So tell me what you did wrong"

For the novice;
Have the car settled and all gathered (brakes, dwn shift, attitude) in preparation BEFORE corner entry. Be on the gas and somewhat spooled up and in a balanced state at corner entry. Do all of that way early and as you get more and more proficient you can move the braking later and the gas earlier.
It is all about feeling/sensing each footprint of each tire. Like Mario, start slow and early and work up to it. Save yourself and the machine to fight another day.
Smooth is the fastest,

Gary
