need help please.

Hello everyone,

I have a euro '84 930 that is bone stock.

Having said that, I am thinking of doing a mod or two that won't break the bank. I know that I need a turbo rebuild (starting to leak oil) and I was thinking that this would be a good time to get an exhaust system. I was looking at RarlyL8 street muffler. But is the muffler enough or do I need to do more to have a noticeable difference in power? Also, should I stay with the stock turbo? And finally, should I send my turbo to RarleyL8 for an exchange?

Thoughts?

Brian can sort you out on all your concerns. He will put up a kit for you. Definately update the turbo too.

I'm in the same boat as you are and actually started at thread about it: The "Let's upgrade Jeff NJ's car" thread

You can certainly upgrade just the muffler for some more power (I will let Rarlyl8 tell you how much). A header system will give you additional power, a bigger, newer turbo will continue that increase, but at some point, fuel requirements cannot be met with CIS. I don't really know where that point is, and there are people here that do, so hopefully they chime in.

My current idea is to replace the headers, muffler and IC and see if I am happy. If not, a turbo would be next, but that may require CIS upgrades... I'm still undecided though.

Your position is a little different because you need a turbo rebuild. If it were me, I would not spend any money on the stock turbo and I would upgrade that. Let a pro tell you how big and what else needs to be done, but the turbo rebuild requirement changes things for me.

I'd do muffler, IC and turbo (in that order) before I did headers.

Turbos are a high "bang for the buck" upgrade. Headers are arguably a low "bang for your buck" upgrade. This is particularly true if your car has the later style OE heat exchangers or the "Euro" style.

If you've got an early US model (76-79) that came with thermal reactors, absolutely headers should be near the top if you're running the stock parts.
