k27 7006 question

I have an older 7006 (it was on the car when I bought it in 2002). It appears to have an adapter in the top of it that houses an orange o-ring, and the cast up-pipe to the stock intercooler slides over it.

I am in the process of installed a TurboKraft longneck half-bay which came with a silicone hose that looks like it clamps on the turbo somehow. I'm not clear if I can clamp right over the adapter piece or if I have to get that adapter out of the turbo. Assuming I do need to remove it, does anyone know how it is secured? Press fit, epoxy, or is it actually part of the turbo and I have to cut it? Tried TurboKraft but it's Saturday and it went to v-mail.

I'm afraid it's looking like I have to remove the turbo etc if I have to wrestle with this thing... I was hoping this job could be done topside.

Yep, its press fit, with gasket. If I recall correctly, it doesn't remove that easily. Go to Brian's website, and see one. Philip

Thanks Phillip! Pictures worth a thousand words. Popped right off after I knew what I was looking at:

Remove the aftermarket adapter you're asking about and sell it for $50. It may be easier to remove the turbo to do it if it's hard to pry and twist off.
If you are using the original charge pipe you cut the o-ring part off the bottom right where it starts to flare out to it. That part has a 2" outer diameter. Sand the cut smooth after cutting it.

After doing that a 2" inner diameter piece of reinforced silicone heater hose about 3" long will fit over the 2" OD outlet of the turbo and the now 2" OD bottom end of the charge pipe will fit into the other end. Then use a couple hose clamps to secure and seal it.

This way is 10 times better than the leaky impossible to line up correctly with an aftermarket intercooler o-ring adapter and it will flow air better.
