CV joint boot for 76
Finally got to replacing the split boot part #901 332 293 12. What shows in the online catalog with our host. Way to small by an inch or less but crucial. Parts guys here on Pelican stumped, any of you guys know the correct part#?
I think the one the sent is about 2"'s whereas improbably need a 3?

I remember getting the wrong boots sent to me by Pelican for the same reason you mention....they were too small. Pretty frustrating at the time.
I think their is a problem with their listing.....I think I remembered going down the road with their tech dept and found a 928 boot to fit my 79 930 cv joints and axles. Please confirm the 928 boot dimensions by having them measure across the ID of both ends and compare to your torn boot if possible or measure the axle shaft OD and the steel CV end cap before ordering. Let us know the part number you find out works for future reference, but I think this is what I had found a few years ago. hope this helps you out Les, Fred

Can you measure the outer diameter of the CV joint and axle on your car? If so, it can be compared to mine (1987) and if it is the same, you can order the later boot kit.

Thanks. I'm holding the new boot in my hand it measures 2 inches id. Looks like it takes a 3".

Outer diameter (as it is on the car) of the flange side, is 73mm (halfway between 2 3/4" and 3") and on the axle is 34mm.
This is a 1987. |

After cutting the clamp off there the #901 332 293 12. Was looked identical to the one in my hand. My saying it should be 3" was wrong that is the size of the collar.
Thanks for the help, sometimes things turn out to be so simple.

Or not. The one on the car is 3" the one pelican sent is the right part # on the order sheet but the boot is 2" is there a boot guru there that can actually measure it before sending it?

Reviving an old thread here as I've come across a similar issue.
Need to replace a torn CV boot on my early 930 ('77). Porsche parts catalog and Pelican here list the part number as 901 332 293 12. From Pelican and other sources you can find both OEM and aftermarket versions of the boot with the same part number, though unclear if there's meaningful differences between them. The issue is the flange on my early 930 is substantially wider than this boot. The boot diameter is roughly 2" whereas the flange on my 930 is close to 3" (appears to be 70mm). The torn boot is wider and fits this flange fine except it's obviously torn, no part number on it. Any recommendations on sourcing the VC boot with wider diameter to fit early 930? I did some searching of the forums, sounds like at least one person used a 928 CV boot. There's also other folks who've gone the route of putting EMPI or other aftermarket boots intended for off road VWs, but I'm assuming there's a correct Porsche CV boot out there somewhere that fits properly.

You might want to try calling JBugs in California. They're an air cooled VW Bug/Bus shop. There's shared DNA in some of the axle parts. I sourced my moon plates there.

I bought 5 of those too small booths, totally bummed and I had to put a used one from my audi on it.

Am in the process of replacing all four of my '79 originals with off-road boots. Better boots IMO. When I get home later will measure the ID.

off road boots
The off road CV boots are better rubber and more flexible. A search will find them.

ID measures about 2.75". It's actually a little larger than the flanges on my 79, the originals are about 2.6". They clamp down ok and I put some permatex Hi Tack on the flange before I tighten up the heavy duty 120 lb cable ties.
