Need advice.
So, I am getting ready to invest in headers and exhaust for my '84 930. I am thinking about Rarely8. The issue is that when I had the top end rebuilt 4000 miles ago the mechanic tried to save me money by reusing the delvar (head studs?). He told me that if I keep it in the stock configuration that I should be fine for quite some time. Now that I want to do the above, I regret not spending the money then. My question to you all is this: before I go to Rarley8 - should I have my guy go in in replace the head studs, or go ahead with the exhaust and headers?
Thanks Guys. |

Do the exhaust and headers.... get them from Brian (Rarlyl8).. AMAZING quality! If your head studs need replacing, do it during the winter...
BTW, if I can get my crank/ cam sensors figured out, I will be up in Whitehall at the end of July for the Cruz-in.... If you want to see first hand what the headers look/ sound like

I'd go ahead with it. If they break it's not much different than if you replace now financially.
Usually there is nothing catastrophic that happens when a head stud breaks. Other than the need to replace them anyway.

Leave them until you need to do the top end again.. unless you have EFI and frequently run a lot more than 1 bar boost with high octane fuel and oil is leaking out around the head to cylinder mating surface from the heads lifting.
Everything from the cylinders on up comes off to replace them. |

thats what i would do. after all, not sure how the header would stress the head studs or cause a problem. if you are concerned, i would limit the boost to .8-.9. on that topic, putting on a header will up your boost with the stock spring to at least .9. make sure the timing is set correctly.
