Couldn't agree more. I always had a great respect for CIS, and as we get further into the FrankenCIS thing posted elsewhere here, I'm even more impressed. 30+ year old equipment still working well if untouched, because it was well conceived and well executed.
Admittedly not the best for emissions, which is why it went the way of the dinosaurs in production cars, but Bosch themselves claim it was designed for performance.

Here's a link to one of several Bosch CIS manuals I found on line.
Really helpful for those like myself to better understand how all the components work together.
There's a really good article on line written by an old VW nut that I read a few years ago and thought I saved it but I cant find it.
