I know the prices on the 930 has greatly increased in the last year, just like the early 911's have.
I know many people are really happy they are going crazy in price but I am not. I have 4 and it is creating wealth to my portfolio and all but I don't really care about that. I love the cars for what they are, awesome cars. If the prices go crazy many parts will get a lot more expensive and in an accident situation they may get totaled faster. Just curious what your thoughts are on the rapidly increasing prices on the 930's and early 911's and others?

Speaking for those of us poor folks who own but a single 930 and who aren't opposed to a portfolio value increase, I'm all for 930 prices continuing their rapid price escalation.
![]() I would suggest that higher valuation would make it less likely for a 930 to be totaled, not more.

I bought mine 2 years ago. I bought it cause of a life long dream.
If it was an investment, then I was in the right place at the right time. Now I worry about driving it as I battle with the insurance company to agree to a replacement cost. There are worse problems to have...... |

Mine's a beater which suits me just fine as I prefer to drive it rather than dust it.
As a manufacturer of high performance exhaust systems for these cars I was expecting a decline in business as cars went back to stock or were pulled off the road and garaged. Fortunately it seems there are still enthusiasts out there that don't mind bolting on some power and lettin' 'er rip so I'll keep the doors open. ![]()

Actually I liked it more when they were more of an enthusiast car and less of a collectors car. Collector being someone who will never drive it, work on it, or show it.
Over the years I noticed many 930 owners are very passionate about their cars and some own multiple examples. The collector types asking me/ telling me what my cars are worth has gotten old. I would rather talk to someone about their rich racing heritage, driving characteristics, shape, production, history ect.. AND not for what it's worth. But the general enthusiast/collector types have finally recognized these are very special cars. Personally the 911s today pale in comparison. I would continue to buy 930s if they were affordable, but that will probably never happen again. I feel very fortunately to own them and their worth will always be secondary to my passion for these cars. |

Agreed, and this unfortunate phenomenon is actually extending way beyond the collector types; even many of the common folk are obsessing over the topics of value and originality. For example, to some extent here, but even more so in the 911 forum which gets much more traffic, if someone posts a question about even a simple modification, it takes about two seconds for someone else to post a comment like "with the soaring values of these cars, it's best to keep it original/stock". Each to their own, but THAT has gotten old!

While I don't really fancy the shift in focus from performance to originality that seems to go along with the "collectible" status, I am happy the cars are seeing the increase in market value. From a purely selfish point of view, it means that I will likely be able to recoup my cumulative investment in the car should I decide to sell. I was upside down big time before the market pick up.

The reason I think they may total faster is because of the price of parts and the ratio of 1/3 the value or whatever the insurance companies use now. I have seen this happen with many valuable Ferrari's over the years. Those of us that can fix them ourselves can buy it back and fix it. I guess time will tell.

I am by no means sad to see valuations on the rise. I have owned three 930's in the past 20 years. I like a 930 in my garage...the fact they are gaining much deserved respect is an affirmation of my good taste.
I think the cars are certainly getting more attention at cars and coffee events and the like. good times. |

Makes me sad. The Early S Registry is a wasteland of useless banter about car values. Everyone who knows anything about these cars has disappeared to get away from the nonsense. The enthusiast community that made the early cars great have run for the hills and am seeing foreshadowing of the same thing across the entire air cooled 911 online scene. I've run away to the 930 forum because there are still hard core maniacs here.
Stay true, people.

IMHO I love the fact the price of our cars are on the rise it just shows others are finally catching on to what we all here already knew......
