Thanks guys, I'm going to try and yank that tube out tonight.
I'm not sure why I didn't figure out that that tobe came out. It's not going to be easy by the way it looks.

And this would be why I had not come across this seal as something to replace while the motor/trans is out.

If it isn't leaking I might let a sleeping dog lie. Might get into more problems pulling that tube than it's worth. Put oil in the trans end and set the box on the floor on the bell. If no oil runs out the seal tube I wouldn't touch it. Polish the splines and bolt on the guide tube and you're good to go.

It held the oil in at an extreme angle indicating it had a good seal. So.....guess I didn't Need to worry about it.

PS - great news about the seal - I know you're happy not to have to open the gearbox up again! |

Am I the only one who found it impossible to pull out the tube with the differential carrier and ring gear in place? I had not trouble breaking the tube loose, and sliding it part way out. My 930/33 (1977) has limited slip and an Andial 8:39 final drive. Would either of those two prevented me from removing the tube?
All of this sticking shafts into tubes is bound to draw a few jokes. I'm ready! |

Maybe Brandon, the OP, will chime in since he has shown himself to be quite skilled with all things shaft, tube and hole related!
