Just a scant quarter $million...

I think this one is the highest asking price I've seen. Wow....I mean wow... 1977.
Porsche 911 | eBay
Just think, 10 years from now my 1987 will go for that (well maybe not, I've got a couple more miles on her). Or, 10 years from now we won't have gasoline anymore and everything will be battery powered and our cars will be worthless!!! We'll be doing the Mad Max Thunderdome thing.

eBay is a joke. I've been trying to buy an SC for months now and keep seeing garbage roll across with big asking prices. No sale then relisted, repeat. Fishing for a sucker. If this '77 is that valuable it won't be sold on eBay.

Don't forget, Bill Noon of Symbolic has sold 3 1976 930's north of $220k in the last 3 months. This is rich and yes, eBay is a joke but maybe this is soon to be where these early cars are going to price? I own a few so then again, hopefully thinking. I do think that there are so few cars from 75-77, anything is possible.

In general a nice looking car but 22,000 mile collector car? I think I will have to call B.S. on this 22,000 mile 1977 930. NO VIN number supplied?

Here is what I noticed that would make me doubt this is a 22,000mi collector car. I could be wrong about a few of these item but maybe someone can chime in to correct me as I am definitely no expert. This is a car that has only been drive one or two tank full of gas a year?

It looks like a repaint with the engine bay stickers on the wrong side. BOV / Intake looks to be slightly polished from cleaning, the black steel tubes from metering plate to turbo and turbo to intake look to be freshly painted long with the coil and airbox. Later airbox? I think the 1977 should be plastic. No smog equipment.

The 150mph speedo?, did 1977 have a 180mph speedo; I know 76 930 did. Recovered dash? Leather shift boot added at some later date. Engine lid "turbo Carrera" script was replaced. Rear windshield wiper installed incorrectly and wheels look to be repainted. Right rear bumper strip is missing two of the rubber plugs. Minor things I know but for a 22,000 mile $250,000 collector car it doesn't seem right. The normal "patina" (grown to hate that word) is missing from a car this old.

If you have a garage queen that you only drive 500 miles a year are you going to remove the smog and paint the coil?

Anyway, just my .02. Would be helpful if someone with a 1977 930 added some insight and corrected any mistakes I may have made.

Why do you say the turbo Carrera script has been replaced?

1977 turbos had 150 speedo. It also looks like when the car was repainted they did not add the textured finish on the rockers and valance. Wrong radio. If they didnt get the labels right(which are simple to get right) it makes you wonder what else when you get close to it. I would think for that kind of money everything should be correct and what ever is missing (smog) should accompany the car for the new owner to put back on if desired. Small things that are missing or are not correct only makes you start to dig deeper.

SOS. Flippers are baiting the market, I think I'll go list mine for $1M and impress some folks.

I have been offered some serious cash for mine in the past few years and this price seems to reflect the early turbo market increase. Maybe, hello to Monterey this summer.

Sometimes low miles only tell some of the story. I have a 64 K mile 77 that is more nicely original in many ways. Some buyers just want that new look even if it has to painted and not be original any more. Still looks like it was pretty nice before. Turbo carrera script and speedo look right but definatly some paint work in engine bay. Most likely needed from overheating which is a common problem, but put the stickers on the right side! That said serious motor work most likely needed as the head studs most likly need to be replaced, even with 22K miles.

Tony,
I was surprised by the Kremer price, since the DP's and Kremers are so closely related. The red DP on ebay in Fl. has some very cool rare features and sits at $99k.

Kremer had DP build the bodies to their designand and mostly used for race cars in group 5. Kremer also has had highly coveted Porsche competition success over the decades which could be a factor. Also just a few built for street use with full Kevlar K2 body. Also possibly the one for $99K may not have the Kremer provenance and/or was not built by Kremer GMBH or put together incorrectly or different parts than an original. Also may not be in pristine condition. I know on mine I sent the turbo out to Durabuilt and they said it would take additional time as they had to source the rare rebuild parts from Germany.

Sports, hobby, collector cars and racing cars will be used long after people quit driven commuter cars, just like horses. Nobody uses a horse to go to work or grocery shopping but they still are popular as a hobby, Our cars will be the same.

eBay may be a joke to some but it is exposure for many who don't frequent forums or the like. Years ago when I had two cars for sale I listed them on the forums. I got a bunch of tire kickers who never even laid eyes on the cars. They tried telling me what they think they were worth. Guess what I sold both cars through eBay. One went to Germany the other was purchased by Symbolic Motors cars...at my asking...to each his own....

who only drives their car 600 miles a year and puts a modern Alpine stereo in it? Come on, this has to be a joke.

Agreed, I had a 1981 BMW GS 1000 that I rebuilt and had painted to match my 930.
I listed it on Seattle CL for $4800. After one month I had one person actually come look at it. The guy told me he wasn't in the market to buy for at least another year but wanted see was out there.
Not to mention the endless hrs wasted nutcakes & dreamers who have nothing better to do with there lives than call to talk about motorcycles they have no intention of buying. After the CL bull***** I listed it on Ebay with no reserve. It sold a week later for $5500
Our cars are fetching some crazy $ if they're nice examples and there marketed properly.

I suspect that after the first time I do a plug change and/or valve adjustment, all that crap will be gone. If you've never had a 930 with the full-on emissions goodies, the wizards at Porsche had to stuff all that crap in any available space, and as we all know space is at a premium anyway.

eBay can be a good thing if you use it properly. I sold my last 930 on eBay as well, for asking price to a nice fellow in France. It's all these bozos who think their $hit heap drug out of a barn after 10 years is worth huge bucks that ruins it for folks actually trying to find a decent car at true selling market value.
