Tec3 issues, looking for input
I am in the finishing stages of my project and I have an issue with Tec3. Injectors don't seem to be flowing any fuel on the entire right bank of cylinders.
1-2-3 all have fuel flow, but 4-5-6 have no flow from the injectors. I am getting 14.1V on the hot side of the injectors and when I did a pin out on the plug to the Tec3 all the wiring is correct. Is there a way the right bank isn't getting fuel pressure? It looks like a common feed rail.... |
if you swapped an injector wire from the 1-2-3 bank to the 4-5-6 bank, wouldn't that allow you to isolate it to a fuel pressure vs. Tec3 or wiring issue?
|
It's def a Tec3 issue, all injectors are getting 14v to the hot side, but the right side bank is not pulsing. I did a pin out from injector to Tec3 plug and everything tests fine, so either I lost the Tec3 or there is a software issue
|
Single or dual plug?
You may want to compare your initial software settings with mine just to eliminate possibilities. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/828353-tec3r-tune-files.html Johan |
Is this a new Tec3?
|
Ok, figured out the fuel issue. I am not running full sequential (no cam trigger) so they only use 3 channel instead of all 6 injector channels. She runs on all 6 now and purrs nicely.
Next issue is I have a ton of EMI that we are trying to figure out. I can get the Wintec software to run great till we fire the car, then it crashes the GUI on Wintec and kicks us out. |
Using a laptop or a PC? If you don't have enough video card in your laptop the video GUI will crash, usually while trying to run 3D mapping. Try running in matix maps only.
|
This is crashing as soon as engine starts running. Friend is using his tablet that supports data logging on his 034 software.
|
Where is the ECU mounted?

I hate windows and refuse to use anythng widows based....
That being said ....Electromotive does not support anything else I got a laptop with newer windows on it and had wierd tuning issues ..I could not do live tuning and had wierd crashes ..no logging ..would not save changes I got an older lap top and loaded windows XP and did Zero updates and I NEVER connect to the WWW with this lap top ...I use a USB to transfer stuff like Wintec and a USB to serial driver the lap top/wintec has been solid and ..I can do Logging runs , live tuning ect ... might be your issue now to get them to support Ubuntu before I switch to Megasquirt .... |
I have an old thinkpad coming that has XP on it. I am planning to DL Wintec on it and try that.

i'm NOT a fan of Electromotive ANYTHING.. Not trying to start any wars or anything like that. I just am tired of typing a history lesson of all the issues on the many cars I have tuned over the last 25+ years using their products.
I have been a loyal DFI customer for 20+ years. I have never had any issues from DFI 6 (DOS) to now (Windows based from windows 95 through 8.1). But not many people in certain marques care for them. I have tuned Haltech's. Big Stuff, Motec, LINK, DTA the list goes on. All systems have their pluses and minuses. I'm thinking your problem is due to a bad ground or possibly something in the new harness... |
Older laptop is the key for The Tec3r. At one time I hated the Tec3r but then I got the PLX wide band installed and my son and I tuned the car in one 400 km session live on board followed by some data logging at the track. Stay with it-worth it in the end.

Running a virtual operating system is a much easier way to do this if the program won't run on what you have.
No need to seek out XP, Linux, or whatever.. with this program you can run anything on anything and there's no way to get a virus with it. A professional IT guy turned me on to this one and it's free with no adware or other junk. https://www.virtualbox.org/ |
I'm with you 100%, the Tec3 is dated for sure, it's buggy, but it's what I have now. I am thinking of going to a Vems unit at some point.
I would go 034, but then I would have to build a complete new harness as they run positive trigger for everything. Quote:

If you need an old laptop, I think I have a old Dell with XP on it I'm not using anymore. I can find it, dust it off and wipe it with a fresh install if you need it. LMK

I just had a friend dig one out of his daughters closet. XP with service pack 3 on a 2.4GHz with 1.00GB of RAM.. this thing is gonna fly... LOL
|
Maybe the coil packs being over the transaxle positioning them closer to the ECU might cause the interference??? you have a O scope available by chance?

I went from an USB2 connector computer to a USB3 connector computer (no they are not 100% compatible) for my TEC/GT and could not even establish communication. |
I am concerned about RF coming from them, they are low resistance wires, only about 360 ohms per foot.
Really hope I dont have to rebuild the wires. Quote:

Just run EMI susceptible wires perpindicular to the plug wires and it should be fine if properly shielded one end only.
|
i am shielded on all needed runs.
|
It runs with no problem? You can communicate with the ECU from a laptop, but you just can't connect to it when running?
|
Correct. As soon as yiu Fire. The GUI goes haywire and boots you.
|
What about starting it up, then after it idles, connect it?
|
same thing, still kicks you right out if you try to communicate with it running.
|
is that using the old laptop?
|
nope, with a Surface 3 tablet.
My buddy dropped off the laptop last night and it doesn't have a serial port... guy thought the VGA port was serial... LOL |
I have another that has a bad OS, seeing if I can locate a XP disc
|
IMR,
My Tec3r is about 14 years old. I run it with an old Acer laptop that has only a USB slot so I also have this Belkin USB to Serial converter. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432561914.jpg I am no tecky, but I remember that the Tec3r will only run on local port 4 when the motor is running. Cannot remember how I got into changing the local ports-maybe somebody more teck savy can chime in if you think that this may be your problem. With respect to the wires, my wires running from the Tec3r to the DFU's are all quite thick, probably 14-16 gauge. I know that we all knock the Tec3r and quite honestly there was a time when I almost ripped it out when my mechanic at the time washed his hands off the system. That required me diving in without much help and I'm glad that I did. The results spoke for themselves both in daily driveability and track use. Stick with it. Hope this helps. Johan |
My buddy has the Belkin adapter, but can't get a driver for the new OS that are out. I just got a good XP disc and I am reloading it on my old laptop now. hope to have it up an running this afternoon. We are getting communication and the GUI (dashboard for management) comes up, but goes haywire when the car is started.
The car is running good right now at low level driving, idles good, good drivability, but going to the dyno in a few weeks so need to get the EMI noise figured out. Quote:

Not a problem, I use a usb to serial rs232/LTP1 port replicator. But his will work as well.
|
You posted before I did. That will work fine. Drivers are out there, but make sure all your Windows updates are done.
|
I wonder if starting windows up in safe mode before interfacing with the Tec3 would work.
Way fewer windows programs are running in the background when you do that. With XP you repeatedly tap F8 while the computer is booting up to do that. I bought a usb to serial port adapter off ebay for less than $3 shipped. No wire on it just male usb on one end and the serial port on the other. Shipping was free and it was in California so I didn't have to wait 3 weeks for it to ship from China. edit: a quick google search just found the same usb to serial adapter I have. I got it so I could log AFR's with my innovate AFR gauge. |
I just got XP loaded in the laptop, now to transfer WinTec over to it. Which might be an issue. Bad network card (why I retired it 10 years ago). LOL
|
USB stick
|
it's zipped... so I need to load winzip to I think. Unless XP has it already
|
extracting onto thumb now.
|
Just did the happy dance in the garage. Full communication with car running and complete access to the BIN file.
Old laptop with XP and serial cable. Thanks everyone. |
