3.3L twin turbo questions.
Hi, so basically I have a 3.2 now rebuilt with 3.3 pistons and cylinders. Will be running a standalone system. Just wondering if anyone has experience doing a twin turbo twin external wastegate system on a similar application. More so im just wondering if the twin k26 would work, or would it be extremely laggy? If so anybody know about what RPM the boost would build?
|
also, the k26 I have are from the early 80's audi 5 cylinder turbos..
|
K26 or 3ldz is bad even with one but two would take forever t spool. Needs smaller turbos for good response. There is a great system available right now in the for sale section for a Carrera intake. Sounds like a great option for you.

K26 for Audi is terrible option. Twin k24 maybe would work.

I'd actually try and find a pair of K16s Used them on a 3.2 to 3.3 Carrera turbo years ago with fantastic results. Yes, twin turbos into a Carrera manifold but used a mustang throttle body for tps ease and IAC valve. AEM stand alone is so tuner friendly and was able to tune it to perfection. If I had the budget I'd build one for myself.
Ditch the Audi dinosaur eggs as they are truly crap for twin use. |
Twin k16 VNTs from a 2L TDI motor.

Twin VNT-25's, still have to work out the controls. Probabaly will not support the horsepower of the twin K16's but gettin' there will be fun!

HMM, wel lthanks for the reply guys. I thought maybe the k26 from the early audis are a smaller k26, As I was just looking at them the other day and they are noticeably smaller than a 3LDZ. So much so that im surprised there even called a k26 since they are seriously almost exactly the same as the k24 I have from a 1.9td I believe. Strange, I feel like there are soo many variations in this old stuff that you can never follow it.
Basically Ive got a 934 build going and I wanted twin KKK, to make it a bit more era correct as those old 934 cars ran KKK turbos right? Im not 100% set on going twin but thought it would be very cool. Ok so you have given me some good ideas for good twin turbos. I really want to use my external wastegate(s) and didnt like the idea of welding shut or blocking off the factory wastegate of say a k16, I want to use the wastegates I have, again for the more genuine look, so I am having a hard time finding the right turbo I guess This is my first porsche forced induction build, So what about a single large turbo, anybody use holset? Like a hx35w or similar, or would that usually be a laggy thing as well? |
|
HX35 would spool really quick, depending on turbine housing. But, they max out about 500hp IIRC on E10 fuel.
|
This is a while back, I removed the tin off the carrera manifold and flipped one out, to get a nicer look and then I planned to bring them back individually. Yes one flange is upside down this way, thought about flipping it also but it doesnt bother me much honestly.
So from here I can stay seperate per side and do twin easily , |
|
Thats just alink to a google image of the old audi wastegate I have, Ive got two, rebuilding them now. I am a little bit set on using this because of the genuine look, as to me it resembles the porsche wastegates alot.

Id be good with 500hp, as I am on a 915, (74 body ) I didnt want to chop it to fit a g50. |

are they seriously that weak? do you guys mean whp? I meant bhp.....
|
there is a guy locally here who has a 3.3 turbo on a 915 beefed up a bit. Runs a k27-7200, he says he has no problem with it, then again he doesnt track the car as I wont either.
