Flatsix, really cool idea on the rear grill, butt I think it would look better if you raised the leading edge to match the trailing edge height (not that you were asking for suggestions, however). :) |

Agreed, it would probably be less noticeable with the same height all the way around. But, still messing around with it... I plan to paint the edge of the tail where the grill would normal sit on (the boarder), black as well as the spacers once I'm satisfied with the looks. The last thing I wanted to do was have to notch the grill and have the IC partially showing. So I'm up for suggestions to squeak it under there with little mod. It's shoved up under there as much as possible. James- It's hard to tell in someones text sometimes... And thanks for the encouragement. On another note, I was out driving today. Mostly causal to check the bottom cruise numbers once I got the spark plugs back in spec. Wow! Drives great under cruise and at idle. AFR's are much leaner than I was running (Which seems much better for it). Idle is about ~13.5-14.0+ and cruise is ~13.5-14.5+ It pulls like a train in 3rd. A little scary, actually. So much so, it was a little hard to pull it out of gear at redline their was so much torque on it. It feels like 2nd! I also had my BOV plumbed backwards. I reversed the hoses and now it seems to work when I dump the throttle after a hard pull. I blew the intake hose off last drive and that clued me in to the possible hose reversal. I was able to tweak a little more on top of the fuel map at hard WOT. Man, it's scary on normal roads with traffic ahead of you. Their bumpers come up fast. The ONLY nagging issue is the Megasquirt ECU will *blink* once in awhile. (meaning it basically turned off for a split second.) It happened once on this last run which was about an hour or so in length. It never did this before. This is what I'm a little suspicious about and wonder if there is any link to the CLT temp going out last month. I'm seriously considering a backup MSII ECU (just replace it with the new one and have the current one as backup.) |
Flamer
I swear the front wheels started to come off the ground in 2nd... Damn. I need to get it on a dyno first thing in the Spring.
Dialing it in tonight: (muhahaha) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1450831347.jpg |
Amazing how dumb fast .5 BAR can be. I'll be getting my first .9 BAR pull after Christmas. My car is already silly fast at low boost and WAY outside the efficiency zone of a k27-7006. In the sweet spot, muhahahaha is right!

I can only imagine what it's like for you guys that have the real deal, big boy turbos. I'm just a poseur in my low boost SC. SmileWavy
My boost gauge says I'm getting closer to, or maybe a little over 10psi...if it's accurate. Which translates to roughly .7 bar? .9 might be TOO much fun.... |
Not with twin plugs and knock control. I'm running SC compression on mine.
|
Are you still running the stock 915?...

But they're fine for around 300hp or so? I'm sure I'm still under that. |
Glad its running well again.
Regarding the cut-out. See if you can capture in a datalog. The controller will have a counter for the number of resets. This will help you identify if its a power reset, external noise or a trigger input issue. It sounds like a whole lot of fun now. |

At the [Time]538.404sec mark, it resets the clock [SecL] to 1.0 and the Afterstart Enrichment [ASE:Y] and the Warmup mode [Warm:Y] both come on for exactly 5 seconds. The ECU firmware is 2.892 (Not 2.891 like I may have previously mentioned.) With the ASE/WSU modes coming on it DOES add about 140-150% fuel for those 5 seconds, explaining the sudden 'roughness'. It only drops the AFR to about 12.1, which isn't too bad but still a bit rich. I suspect the ASE and WUE are coming on as a result of the reset. But why is it resetting... It does NOT seem to be power related as everything else is still logging. I wonder if this is a software issue. I'm not seeing anything unusual (yet) on any of the other data points, but I'm looking and comparing. |
Jamie-
Went and did another run today after I noticed the #1 plug wire was brushed up next to the main harness of the MS unit. I pulled everything back (I had cut all the zip ties earlier when I was installing the turbo and didn't think much of it.) and re tied everything up and out of the way like it was. Crossing my fingers as it didn't blink on this run which lasted about 40 minutes. Every run before, it would do it at least once. Not this time. |
Cool. Always good practice to keep low voltage signal wires away from HV spark plug tension wires. At least make them cross at 90 deg angles if they have to cross.
electrical noise and EFI systems don't mix well. |
Incredible project... Love the looks of the car as well. Seems like the perfect SC hotrod!

Such fun going to the dark side and boosting a car. It's a different animal in good ways. I too started with lower boost and that was fine. Awesome compared to no boost. I'm sure it was a little scary and lots of fun. You'll get used to that. Then you'll turn up the boost and it'll start over. White knuckles and upset stomach again like before. (For me it was that extreme).
My car now uses a short 930 gearbox because I couldn't keep from wrecking the 915. Christmas morning as I was driving in Mexico, I hit 170 as it was still climbing I weenied out. It'll do 180+ but I need to look at suspension and brakes now. It was scary. No one was in the road, it was Christmas morning after all. Merry Christmas to me. 😊 |

I think I'm done with this project for the most part. The tuning is complete. At least as far as I can go on the street. I still plan to dyno tune it this spring/summer if I get the chance. Thanks for all the support and help everyone. The car is running great. I have the EGO active now to smooth any highs and lows but it doesn't move much as the tune is right about where it should be. In the end it wasn't all that big of deal. In hindsight, the ECU glitch was just that. I'm thinking it was a plug wire that was running too close to the MS harness that may have 'zapped' the firmware causing the Coolant (Case) sensor to go out. All that was really needed was to re-flash the firmware and continue on. I shouldn't have tried changing the firmware version in the middle of the project. Again, thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuxlJwS0s-M |
Flames are cool.

Cool!
I can see some soccer mom dialing 911 to report a car on fire, ha! Did you program the Megasquirt to keep dumping fuel even when the throttle is shut? |

So you've had good luck with EGO control?
I found it to be a little intrusive screwing up acceleration enrichment (wanting to keep it lean) which led to laggy boost. |
Flat6, totally wicked.
Well done! |
