Turbo does not spool up

I get no boost from the turbo anymore?
I've taken my turbo out to look at it and it spinns freely and does not have much slack.
My wastegate only has the lower hose connected to the Intercooler and should be closed.
I guess my turbo is broken could anything else be wrong?
It's k27-k29 btw

No boost as in zero boost on the gauge, or low boost?

Maybe you should check and see if your wastegate is stuck open. Apply 0.5 bar of air pressure to it, then release it. You should be able to hear the tapping sound of the valve opening and closing.

Could be a stuck boost recirculation valve (BOV - Blow Off Valve)

Sounds like a pressure issue as mentioned above. As long as your vanes aren't shredded and the turbo spins freely, I sincerely doubt the turbo is the culprit, especially if it isn't puking oil.

Smoke test you motor - you can build a pretty simple apparatus with hardware store grade plastic fittings, a cigar and an air compressor.

Purely out of curiosity, do you have a link to a DIY for this? I'm intrigued.

If the OP is saying that he actually has "no boost", and not just the gauge not registering boost, then more than likely the wastegate is stuck wide open (or its valve head is broken off, etc.) - like Speedy mentioned.

No harm in smoke testing intake, butt if there is a leak significant enough to result in "no boost", then the car will run and idle like shart due to the air leak casing such a rich condition.

PS - the wasgate can be tested for "being closed" by stuffing a rag, paper towel, banana, etc. in its dump pipe () and running the engine at a standstill (see if the stuffed object is expelled, or not, with some no-load, highish RPM).

Just kidding about the banana, buttofcourse.

My mom drove a turbo every day for about 8 years. Around year 7 or so my dad drove the car and almost got killed getting on the freeway ... he mashed the pedal to merge into traffic and the car didn't go! There was no boost.

Turns out the turbo was frozen. My mother never boosted the car and the turbo just decided since it wasn't being used that it would just lay down and die...

The moral of the story is that your turbocharger could be junk.

Hmm,it's not the bov, so if you guys don't think the turbo is dead, it must be that the wastgate was stuck open. I've had my engine and transmission out for a while doing a g50 conversion , and have had a look at the wastegate before and it was closed, but it might just have droped in place.

check the rubber boot that goes from the AFM to the turbo., if it is soft it WILL collapse and act like the turbo is not workling.

what do you mean you have no boost
is this based on the gauge not showing boost
or it is that you have no power?

if the turbo spins, and it has all its blades, its not the turbo.

waste gate open or massive leak on boost side. but then I would think you would have other issues too

The turbo didn't spool up or at least i couldn't hear it, so i guess it must have been the wastegate.
