Replacing 78/79 Floating Rotors with Non-Floating

I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before, however, I can only seem to find bits and pieces of related information returned from a search. I would like to replace my '79 floating front rotors with non-floating equivalents. Can anyone tell me what pieces I need to replace and with what? I understand that I need to replace the rotors with a later version - what year? Do I need to replace the hub? I want to keep the same offset so that my wheel offsets don't need to change. Thanks in advance for the help - can't stand the noise anymore!

I think that I figured it out.....81+ hubs and rotors. No spacer required. Correct?

I think its later than that. There were still spacers on non floating hubs until 85 I think.

1981 - I would keep your original floaters...why downgrade? The 930 floating rotor discs are the same as the 917, 2.8 RS, RSRs.

My '84 has no spacers on the front, but did come with the usual spacers on the rear when in factory form.
Are you wanting to swap out just for the cost issue with replacing floater parts? Or are you tired of the rotor/hat rattle?
If your stock set-up is in good shape, you should be able to get a pretty penny for a complete set-up if you sell to somebody doing an early restore.

I have floaters on my Kremer 3.2 (non Turbo) and would like to swap them out as the rattle is annoying after a short time.

Does anyone have any view as to the availability of good used '81 parts to do the swap? I had heard that they were unobtainium other than new and in that case the price points were crazy high.

Give Steve Weiner a call at rennsport systems , he set me up with rotors for my early 930 to run late 930 calipers. It's a 993 rotor turned down a bit to clear the rotors and a custom hat that mates to my early 930 hubs.

On a similar note, the hardware for the custom hats lock down a separate rotor , similar to a floating setup. Could your floater hats be modified with hardware to lock in place?

Problem fixed by locking the floating rotors. I flipped the retaining plate over and they are now non-floating.........now the front end does not sound like it is going to fall apart over bumps. Thanks for all of the input!

I probably did the same thing by putting a little high temperature RTV silicone on the tabs of the floater hardware. Did this a few years ago and the noise is greatly reduced, but I have always debated what to do when my rotors wore out. Hence I wonder about the update mentioned here, but recently found out that North American prices are completely out of line.

I checked with one of my Dutch suppliers, they appear to be relatively obtainable....about 150 euros for the hubs and related bits, so when I get back there later this year, I'll let people know what I find, biggest risk is that these cars are getting old, hard to APK them so the parts places are starting to junk older parts as there is little interest in them over there.....
