Porsche Panorama - "The Last 930"

Quite an extensive article by Randy Leffingwell on how the last '89 930 came about. Never mentioned who owns it (still the original owner). It was built as a US car and cost well north of a 959!. What a car!!!

Yes, black/black Cab with leather everything, special audio, 6-speed, 400+ HP.
Someone from NY bought it. Did not say where it was now.
Have you seen it before?

I've seen articles and references to it. Porsche has said that it was the highest optioned 930 ever built. Even the strut brace is leather wrapped and the little flap around the gas cap is leather with an embroidered Porsche crest.

This is from Porsche's Facebook page. Sorry for the big pics.

"The 'slant-nose' was delivered to the owner in April 1990"

"The 911 Turbo Cabriolet was equipped with a rain sensor. In case of rain, the open roof closed itself automatically and the owner got notified by a remote control.
The opening mechanism of the cabriolet top was furthermore modified in order to fit in the speakers of the 1000 Watt Custom Built Stereo system."

"Speedometer reading up to 220 mph and an LED boost pressure display with a digital clock. The
Speedometer face and the faces of all of the other gauges are covered in leather and the numbers and words were hand silk screened on."

"Leather interior parts, a speciality of Porsche Exclusive, were almost everywhere. In total, more than 300 individual pieces were covered in leather. The car was furthermore ahead of its time with its six-speed manual transmission and a factory equipped limited slip differential."

"The car's tools were kept in hand-sewn leather wallets."

"The engineers at Porsche did everything possible for the Turbo engine with Motronic system - new camshafts, pistons, larger intercooler, different exhaust system, etc. The modifications resulted in an engine power of more than 460bhp (at low turbo boost)."

"The turbo boost could be controlled by the driver with an adjustable boost control in the center console."

I think the owner lives in Florida and owns one seriously insane 964 cab with carbon fiber suspension components, F1 level brakes, and purple interior.

This is the Rennlist thread on his 964, google "964 America GS" for more info.

Ding ding ding - was so disappointed to read that in the article. All that effort to make such a cool car (that said it differs from my taste by about 180 degrees but thats beside the point) - 6 miles. 6 MILES?!?!?!? A shame IMO.

I mean they built a custom top mechansim due to the sound system. That (the sound system) in itself was quite a story. Pretty crazy car....

the car is owned by a gentleman named Robert Linton, he has a great thread over on Rennlist regarding his America GS, which he has built a full carbon suspension for! and the cars live here in NC. great pieces of preserved porsche history.

That is a shame. He may own the coolest and last 930 ever made but I guarantee I've enjoyed my old haggard '87 more.

IMO. There is something smelly about the whole thing: those electronics in 89?, all those Porsche crest in the cabin - Porsche is more discrete than that..., the stereo system, the adjust boost knob, the fan hub, the wheels, the front valance arrangement, the a/c compressor, the "in thrunk" kill switch, cracked paint on the rear lid strike plate with under 100 miles... Porsche OEM???
Anyway, enjoy the car for whatever it really is = drive it!

+1. Took my car on a short run on Mulholland Hwy yesterday. Seemed to me a lot more fun than having a museum piece. Then again, I don't have the means to have multiple 911s.

That is NOT 'cracked paint'. It's a reflection.

...a reflection of a tree branch behind the car. There are several reflections like that, look at the shrub and building on the left fender.

He ordered all the crests, wheels, audio system, etc. under Porsche's 'special wishes' program. The compressor is stock, looks like.

Anybody got any idea what the three items i circled are? You may have to refer to the larger picture above... BTW: The boost gauge is awesome!! Also, you will notice the coverplates that go over the stereo [porsche embossed].

Great read and amazing car. Crazy to think it was the owners first porsche? He was shopping for a weekend car and not even a turbo at that... Sad that it just sits but on the other hand its such a special car I can understand the desire to preserve it.

Makes me want to put gold BBS RSs on my car. I've never seen them look so good

I suggest everyone read the article... it really is fascinating. And it all started with a simple request for a leather dash!
