Clutch slippage?
Hey fellas, I installed a new Kevlar clutch last winter, it works great but I've had a few times on the track where I've been accelerating and felt it slipping a couple times. Then it would stop doing it. Could it be me accidentally touching the clutch pedal that could cause this? It happened again today on track. Today was a little wet but in process of drying up. In 4th gear it felt like it either clutch was slipping or tires were slipping. The car wasn't squirming around like the tires were spinning.
Could LSD being doing funny things? I'm running 315 rear tires, so lots of grip.

I was in the exact same boat as you with Kevlar. Mine was due to a leaking RMS. Sometimes it held fine.

Ok but I replaced my RMS at the same time I did the clutch.

PullinMyPuddy, this is probably a silly question, as I think you are beyond this level of troubleshooting, but are you sure you have enough free-play (different that the pay-play you are accustomed to

Hey Rawknees, is this free play you describe where i measure 1.2mm between the adjuster nut on the arm on bottom of Tranny? If so I thought I had that all good. But I'll check again.
I was wondering if I was accidentally touching the clutch pedal, just barely, if there could be enough pressure to loosen the grip to allow slippage?

PuddPuller, yep, that is the free-play I was talking about. If it is set correctly, I seriously doubt that an inadvertent, light touch with your meat hook (foot) would cause the clutch to engage slightly and slip. You could always experiment by increasing the free-play a little bit and see how the clutch reacts . . .

I had someone suggest perhaps this slipping or loss of power sensation maybe be my ignition coils going bad. I know my coils are about 20 years old Electromotive Tec1 dual plug set up. I wonder if that could be it? My plugs & wires are all less than 2 years old.

You should be able to tell the difference between slipping clutch (engine revs up with no forward thrust in relation to engine rpm and no tire spin), tire spin (it's pretty obvious when this happens) and engine not running right (engine won't rev up normally while under load).

MikeD930 you're right, clutch slippage would see a spike in rpms, the car isn't doing that, it acting like when i've had a boost leak in past. The car just stops accelerating. Perhaps its fuel issue? If so i'm not sure how to test that?

When you think the clutch is slipping, it should be very obvious on the tacho, even by a few hundred. But tyre spin will give you same. But at least you would eliminate an engine issue. If the tach stays steady, you better look elsewhere. Better eliminate the tach one first. easiest. You shouldn't be getting tyre spin with 315s tho. So if tach spikes, look to the clutch. The clearance can decrease a bit when everything gets hot, so make sure you still got free play after a hot run. But 1.5mm should be enough, and you would have to more than resting your foot on pedal to cause that.
