1987 930 Turbo ???????

a customer brought in a 911 wide body, as a 930 turbo, car is a bit of a dog and does not appear to be a genuine factory turbo. All checks so far have left me still confused, my best guess is that it may be a 911 wide body non-turbo that was later fitted with a turbo motor ??

Chassis # is WP0ZZZ912HTS121588 as stamped on body.

vin # on door is WP0AB0912HS121588

Engine # is 930 101 1045P

Any help in establishing exactly what this car is would be greatly appreciated ..thx.

I'm no expert but it looks like both numbers indicate 1987 model (H in the 10th slot). Also the 7,8 and 12 slots I believe designate model. Mine read 9,3,0. The ones above read 9,1,1. Is there no option code M491 on the sticker affixed to the frunk?

An '87 930 would have a 4 speed box as well…

Hunt around on the various vin decoders which are helpful.

Good luck.

A from-the-factory turbo would have a "3" in the 8th spot in the VIN. WPOZZZ93... The "3" denotes the 930. Instead, a "1" (like what you've posted) denotes a 911.

The engine # you have posted is the casting number/part number for the engine block.
I think that's a part number for a 3.2 Carrera engine, which would be correct for an '87 Carrera.
I'm guessing you have a wide body 911.

Look at the transmission, brakes, tach/boost gage, and banana arms as well.

The page below will decode the vin for you but the chassis number you listed has 18 numbers it should have 17 you might have typed it in wrong.

If you drop the last digit out (8) it come up with:

Model 91S - Manufacture Year 1987
Unknown coding. Please report this error code (1-91S-72)

If you drop the T between HS out as in WP0ZZZ912HS121588:

Model 911 - Manufacture Year 1987
Coupé (Canada USA spec)
3.2-Ltr, Flat 6-Cyl, 5-Spd Std, DME Bosch L-Jetronic

Taken

After 9 years of (mistaken) ownership the car we really have is not the high and mighty 930 cab, but a lowly 3.2 naturally aspirated cab with a 3.3 turbo engine. Now what to do? We were hoping to cash in with the long dollars the 930 will bring, but no. She is still up for sale, best offer.

We have one that matches all the above, too bad the vin does not agree. It says we have a narrow bodied targa roof car. Quite different from our "930". Might be parting this beauty.

Ours does have a G50/01 not sure if a conversion? What are the signs?

thanks

1987 Is the first year that the 911 was produced with the G50 series gearbox, therefore not a conversion.
