1978 SC engine, is it dead?

A long time ago, I bought a black 1978 911 SC Targa (second owner). I have had it in a garage for 21 years. It sadly has not moved in about 18 years or so. It has, I think about 30,000 miles on it. (I must check) I left it and did not drain oil (stupid). I was having some problem with the starter at the time, as I recall.

Condition of the engine is unknown. What are the chances the engine can be saved? What is it worth, in the unknown state?? Where is the best place to sell it? It has been under a cover all these years and looks good. Any particular message boards for 1978 911 Targas around?

I must sell as is, I cannot fix it given my time constraints.

I expect that you'll need to at least tear down the top end. From what I recall oil (especially oil with some water in it) tends to form some acidic compounds after a period of time... The engine is most likely savable, but will require a full refresh...

I expect a buyer would be interested in knowing if you can at least turn the motor over by hand.
I resurrected a '74 911 motor that had sat for 10 years once. The fuel injection was a little gummed up and some of the injectors didn't spray too well but other than that it ran fine once those issues were addressed.

The going rate for non running engines is $300 to $800. A whole lot less than a known good running one.
