an old freined came back to visit.

We built this turbo engine back in the early 90's. I'm not sure of the mileage as we do not see the car. But, from its condition, it has seen many miles.

Of interest to us was the head sealing this engine shows. This engine has our sealing system and shows after all of this time no leakage past the head to cylinder seal on the exhaust side. Its not often we get to see the results of our "stuff" especially after such a long road test.

Hello Neil, here is a shot from one of my heads for reference that lifted from 1.4 bar of boost and too low of head stud torque. I torqued the heads at the 3.2 torque settings although I had 993TT studs.

Nice fretting around the perimeter of the sealing surfaces....

Lesson learned! Need to contact you in the future when I am ready to rebuild.

We were very pleased at what we saw. This engine has our head studs we use to make and sell back then and our head sealing system.

The sealing system on these cylinders/heads use two components. A sealing ring and a head gasket. The head gasket stops the fretting and the sealing ring seals the combustion chamber.

We are now thinking of remaking the head studs as part of our new 911 inventory coming. We know a lot more about head studs now and how to better use them in these types of engines. A lot of this development is not just about the studs but other components used along with them.
