Early 911 whine.
Trying to track a possibly excessive whine from my 1000 mile old build.
I have heard other 911s with this much whine but just as many without.( I am also deaf in one ear.) 2.4 with 2.2S pistons on a sandcast 67 case S cams and MFI. Disconnecting fan belt eliminates alt fan as a source. Using a machete as a stethoscope I isolated the whine on revving to the outboard cam sprockets. Can sprocket alignment cause this? new chain, new sprockets, new pressure fed tens. I measured per Waynes book for alum case. Is this something that improves with miles? I use brad penn oil and have used aeroshell 40 with zinc. |

Chain alignment, depending on the degree of misalignment, can generate noise. Without hearing it for myself, its difficult to offer anything more specific. Intermediate shaft gears can also generate a whine if there is a problem
It will not get better over time so this is something to recheck.

My motor started to whine. Sounded like a bad alternator bearing. Turned out to be a collapsed tensioner.
