Need advice on pistons for 3.0 sc turbo
Hi
I am in the process of rebuilding a 82 sc and I am turboing it using 930 intake and fabspeed head exchangers along with a efi swap. I am reaching out to see if you guys can give me some advice on what pistons I should use in standard size and what comp. thanks |

What camshaft are you planning on using? What turbo? How much boost? What Hp are you shooting for? What operating range? Intercooler?
Those will all have a bearing on compression ratio you should shoot for. |

i have 964 cams or stock 3.0, will run 630 injectors and stand alone, gt35 turbo probably .81 exhaust, power lever 400 wheel goal, intercooler will be a custom setup id say 4x21x12. The motor had 4 broken studs but we did not split the case as the engine didn't have any bottom end issues and has 90k on it
thanks for your time |

Personally, I would probably shoot for 8.5-1, open intake ports to 38mm (not sure what size heads you have now) and use 1000cc injectors(not necessary, but will not affect idle and allows for more hp down the road), as well as a .63 hot housing for quicker spool. Plus you might want to advance the cams, again for faster spool.

I stock 3.0 Turbo pistons. Let me know if you have any interest.

91-92 3.3 turbo Ps&Cs. (full fins) It requires you modify the rods (23mm small end bushings and extend the center to center length .080" ?) Longer if you're looking for more compression (slight piston machining if you go this rout.) Be careful about looking for too much compression on these little turbo engines. The benefits are multiple. Longer rod for better rod length to stroke ratio, Ps&Cs are factory replacement Mahle which mean ease of replacement if you need one, cost is reasonable and factory pistons use Goetze rings. My favorite for street applications. These 3.3 pistons and cylinders are readily available low mileage used for very reasonable prices if you want to go that direction. We're in the process of reproducing the 3.1 SC Ps&Cs as an upgrade for the normally aspirated 3.0 builds. It was a little known factory option back in the day for customers looking for that little something more. I'll post more about the upgrade option soon.
