2.7 Street Engine
Hi all,
I have a 2.7 engine that was going to go into the (since departed) 914 racer. It has never been final assembled...9.6:1 JE Pistons, single plug, EFI, rebuild cylinder heads. Newly rebuilt 915 with LSD and 8:31. I have S cams in it now, but am thinking that maybe an E grind would be a better street cam. I have the S cams in, brand new Web Cam, not yet timed. It would be an easy matter to swap these out now. I am assuming that the MFI S cam profile would be the most extreme as related to any clearance issues with the valves and pistons, which I have already verified as non-issues. I am soliciting anyone's two cents worth on cam profiles. TIA Pat

IMHO, S cams are the way to go in a 2.7... especially with that compression ratio.

If you want a wider torque range, I'd use either Mod-S cams or Solex ones.

Mod-S or DC40! Makes for superb driving single plug cars

I have a 2.7 with single plugs (but MSD ignition) PMO 46's and E cams. It starts to pull from 3000 and isn't finished by a very conservative 6200 redline. Works great!

The S cams Henry Schmidt put in my 2.7 were ideal. That was with the 8.5:1 RS P/C set and 40mm Weber carbs.

I think you would regret going with E cams. With 9.5 CR and MFI, the S cams should be very streetable.
