Oil pump options/upgrade for 2.2l
Hello
Could use some advice on oil pumps for the 2.2l engine. Is it worthwhile upgrading a good condition original 2.2 oil pump. I have a like new 993 oil pump that’s ive had for ever, would that fit in a 2.2 case. Or is the 3L pump the only pump That fits. Thank you for any advice. |

The 993 pump requires clearancing one of the main bearing webs, which you can do with a die grinder (not a precision operation - I made it easier by starting with a saw). And you need the shorter splined shaft.
Not sure what the benefit would be, though. Is this a 9,000 RPM hand grenade race motor? Doing the oil modification on the case and using your 2.2 pump would probably give you all the improvement with less parasitic loss? |

Thank you
This will just be a street driving car. It seems I’ve seen quite a few lately upgrade there oil pump with later oil pumps ... I’ll do the oil modification like you suggest and just use the stock 2.2 pump. Thank you for the reply. |

An SC or Mag 4 rib pump is a nice affordable upgrade especially if you have the oil bypass mod done to your case.

Hi Herman, A 993 pump will generate quite a bit of oil pressure...too much. I would stick with a aluminum SC/3.2 oil pump. Don't forget to use my sump plate! (available through our host!)
