I'm in San José so there are quite a lot of non-open air shops and very reputable ones. Still no Porsche specialist machine shop. Actually no specialist brand machine shops at all they so any work on any engine.

Flying to the US with the case god idk. Feels like getting a complete used good engine is starting to make more sense.

Slightly off topic, but was watching some guy on YouTube fixing a 100 year old tractor. He poured a bearing out of lead babbitt, around the crank, and that was it... 100 year old tech.

Really wonder if some entrepreneur type could take an old bearing shell and zinc plate it “thicker” to whatever measurement was needed. Zinc is very soft...

Again, that’s a Hail Mary solution, but if I were living in some poor country with limited resources and no way to fix a car...that might work... though debatable for how long...

It' a nice experiment though. Would rather try it in an old Toyota though.
