82 SC Head Studs-Replace with????
What is the current view on replacing lower head studs on my 82 SC. One broken, should all be done now? with what -steel, Dilivar, have had many conflicting opinions.
I don't want to rebuild this thing - just fix for now at least cost. Strong running, 50,000 mile motor. Thanks to all!! |

NOT dilivar.
993 steel head studs are perfect for a stock or milldly modified SC motor. I use 'em in the racecar.

steel, do them all. hopefully that head is not pounded by running loose on the cylinder top. they may need a flycut to true the sealing surface.

Thanks for the input - got any part #'s to go with that info? I reckon I'll replace them all while I'm in there - any tips on removal made easy?

OK, dumb question: How are the early steel studs different from the 993 steel studs?

Tom......I had a set of both.
The early steel studs were just plain steel. The 993 studs had some sort of paint/coating on them. (They were steel, not Dilavar; I checked 'em with a magnet.)

The 993 ones are threaded along most of their length...
