1976/77 911 rebuild - heater hoses
I am rebuilding a 1976 911s. The engine is from a 1977 911.
It looks like I’m missing some pieces here but I cannot find the parts in the Haynes or PET doc. I removed the air intake cover. Can someone help out in identifying the heater hoses and connectors that I need? I do have the 101 Projects book coming in the mail. You need the blower fan, fan console, and 2 75mm flex hoses and the right angle connector on the back of the heat box.

hose
If you are not concerned with originality, you might consider backdating the heat system. Really cleans up the engine compartment, eliminating the ugly blower etc....
Here's a pic of a 3.0 engine that has the backdated, earlier heat ducts. These pix were taken during a project that both backdated and updated the engine...but you can see the "old-school" heater hose and ducts........this configuration still provides mucho heat. regards, al

That looks a lot better than the hoses running all over the place. Plus, if I can’t find an inexpensive blower, then I don’t want to drop $$ on a new one that could be used elsewhere. Assuming that the driver’s side air deflector won’t be useful since the outlet is larger than the heat exchanger inlet, I will need those air deflector pieces on both sides of the engine. Thanks for the part numbers. I looked them up on pelican. There’s aftermarket backdating ducts for the left and right ride. $200 and they don’t look particularly good. I am going to get a reducer for the left side and modify/fab the right side plate by welding a tube onto it. As long as I’m deviating from RESTO, might as well do it on the cheap. And really, that piece does not look too good. I don’t think I could do worse.

I just bought the two from Sierra Madre. The left looked and was painted as original, and was much cheaper. The right side is clearly aftermarket and painted or powder coated differently than original, and more $$. Both required slight messaging to fit.

I pulled the plate from the right side of the fan. Planning to modify it.
In looking at the top of the engine case, there is a lot of oil there. I’m thinking that there is probably a leak in the network of oil lines on top of the case. Are oil leaks common in this Area? I’m hoping it’s not a leak in the case. ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've seen the oil pressure switches leak right out of the box. I typically seal the crimp with JB weld.

The heater blower is effective. I have tested it both ways on the SC with and without. I also wonder if bleeding off additional airflow on the passenger side by the backdate hose above what the factory designed has any significance, probably not.

In addition to a new set of cooling shroud to heater hose parts...
My recollection is that the heater backdate I did on my 1976 involved a change to the sheet metal tin that is between engine and body. The cars with electric blower had the driver side hose going to/through the sheet metal part that spans the back of the engine. That part is 9xx 106 085 xx The earlier cars or a backdate look will have a driver side heater hose path that will look symmetrical with the passenger side. The hose goes through a small filler plate. If you discover that your engine sheet metal does not have that filler plate on the left with a hole for heater hose you can get that part by searching for 901 106 825 00. The back sheet metal 901.106.085.xx / 911.106.085.xx / 930.106.085.xx came in many many flavors depending upon how many hoses went from above to below and other factors. The cleanest look would be an early one that has no holes. There are so many versions of that sheet metal part I don't know how you assure that you get one without extra/ unneeded holes unless you see a site that has pictures of the actual part you get. Your car probably also had a smog pump, that accounts for at least one unused hole in that back piece of sheet metal on your car, if you wondered. |
