HI all,
Wes here, Got a barn find. 68 911s I think. Ill post pics of Vin number and engine number. need help identifying these. I have car ass end up in the air ready to pull engine. I took off starboard side cover and found cam nut off. Not sure of damage but looking forward to rebuild it buying parts from here. Body is rough but little rust. 64K orig miles. Last owner about 20 years ago shot it with primer I mean all over and parked it in a barn. Any help appreciated on identifying model and engine year. I found papers in glove box stating engine was replaced years ago with a 72t engine. Shame!

The engine number is on a vertical face of the engine case to the right and below the fan shroud part number pictured. Need a flashlight/ torch to see it.

Greetings on Paris Mountain! I grew up on the other side of the state, near Conway.

6139095 corresponds to a 2.4L 73T engine, and may have been originally in a Sportomatic-equipped car. Reference is my old copy of the Red Book.

Based on another thread here the VIN number is telling me its a 1968 911S. Am I correct. This may be a great barn find. Only paid 3000. for it with a clear title.
Thoughts?

WIll be pulling engine in a week or so to access damage, then the fun begins.... If I can get all the primer off....Must be 8 coats on it

11 = 911
8 = model year 1968
3 = US 911 coupe
0422 = sequential production number

The VIN corresponds to a 1968 base 911 coupe (not L, S or T) for the US market.

I'll post back once I get the heads off and see what kind of damage happened when the cam nut came off. (Cam was not turning). Do you think the valves and pistons had a party?

For $3K a base 911 in the shape you describe is a great deal indeed! Head over to the Early S Registry if you haven't already; there's a lot of discussion and guidance around the one-year-only quirks of the '68 as well as a lot of nice examples for inspiration. Looking forward to following your resto.

So, I was directed here by bizzare grant finder ! I have a dodge ram 1500, 2002 I'm selling for $6000.. Great engine, great trans, new radiator and battery.97,770 miles. so, yeah.. I still need a grant. I am single mom with little to no income.. I have two vehicle payments and a mortgage.. I just need to sell my truck or get a grant so I can continue my life as normally as possible .. I am also a student.. yes, every thing has just recently gone to hell in a hand basket.. well here is to hoping this meets the right people and can direct me in the right direction.. Kate

Probably a T motor, judging by the yellow shroud. But still MFI is a score. If complete that is worth more than you paid for the car.

'72 Ts did have MFI in the US originally. Still that is a nice motor. Don't discount it simply because it is a T.
