87 930 control pressure regulator

I have an 87 930 that has just eaten its 4th control pressure regulator. The last one only lasted about 2 hours. When a new one is installed the control pressure (cold and warm) is correct. I have changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel system as best I can for contamination. Every time the same thing happens, the diaphragm is ruptured. The system pressure is also correct. One small detail is that after I installed the last one the control pressure was high but after I checked the valve where the pressure line conects the fuel distributor the control pressure was then normal. I keep thinking that there must be a pressure spike in the system to rupture the diaphragm but cannot find out why. Any thoughts? I am also thinking of changing this engine to EFI possibly by utilizing a 3.2 carrera intake. Does anyone have any insight on this. Thanks
