Wayne's New Engine Book
Just received a review copy of Wayne's new engine book from the publisher MBI Motorbooks.
Great book, clean, clear, color photos, and easy to understand. I hope to read the entire book this weekend and write a review on it for the next issue of 9 Magazine. Great job Wayne, anyone looking at working on their 911 engine, or just want to know more about them should read it! Brian Minson Publisher 9, The DIY Porsche Magazine http://www.9magazine.com |
Thanks Brian!

Great Book Wayne!
One question I have is can you recommend any engine rebuilders/machine shops in the Westchester County area of NY (914 area code) or in Southern Ct (203)? Thanks:D |
wayne's new book is going to be very popular. there really was nothing out there previously that was worth a crap. the haynes/bentley books don't hold a candle to this one. even the $500 factory shop manual doesn't come close to the wealth of information it contains. this is going to be the bible. a total beginner, hopefully somewhat mechanically inclined, could rebuild their engine using the step by step procedures. even shops will keep it for reference info. it's pretty much for everybody who works, or wants to work on 911 engines. about damn time somebody put out a proper manual!

Today, my color copy (finally) arrived.
As I bought the preview copy, I had a basic idea just how good the final edition would be, but now that I have it my hands, it blows me away! The photos are amazing, and I haven't had the time to look at the CD-ROM yet. John....You are right about the factory books. I wonder if I will ever need to look at mine again. Wayne....now if you can do a transmission book in the same format we will be in D-I-Y heaven! |
Sorry, I don't know of any engine rebuilders in your area.
JW, thanks for the feedback! Coming from you, specifically, that means a lot! -Wayne P.S. Thanks for the license frames, I'm going to put them on the Pelican Truck! |
Wayne, I did not know which thread to post this in but I have just received my copy of the book, (on my birthday). I only have one word WOW!!!!!!!!!!!.
It has far exceeded what I had expected it to be, the pictures are cool, clear and are a great help, the text is very readable and understandable, even the small strip of pictures along the top of every page. It's all the small attention to details that make it for me. You should be very proud of your achievement. Well done Regards Jakes |
Hey Jakes, happy birthday old chap!
Any chance you could bring the book along with you next week, would love to have a look. Haven't ordered my own copy yet, but will next time there's something else I need from Pelican. Cheers |
OI OI less of the OLD business:D :D :D
No problem, I will bring it on the Sat, it is really good. I will buy a second one if I rebuild my motor, coz I know the one will get absolutely filthy, and would need a nice one for the coffee table. Cheers Jake |
An outstanding book!
I am about to install a 3.6l motor in my '81 SC. After it is installed and certified I am going to rebuild and modify it. I do not have previous 911 engine experience but do have enough confidence to just dive in and do the work. After reading this book, I realize that it is probably going to save me thousands of dollars, several months of misspent labor, and might even add a few years to my life! As a tech writer, I can say that the arrangement and presentation of information, as well as the formating of text and graphics, is as good as it gets today. I am super-glad it came along when it did! |
Wayne!
Does the CD include the high resolution pictures that you had taken from the engine parts? We had a small chat about this back then, and you mentioned something about making posters of those images after the book is published. Oh, yea, I ordered the book too :) |
You mean the exploded view?
-Wayne |
Yea, thats the one....well, all the engine parts were on some floor/carpet or table, all shiny and tidy. That picture was so cool. These pictures were the tease images before the book was published.
|
These to be exact :) Would love to have those in either poster (all on one, maybe A0 or A1 size, or each on their own A0 or A1 size) or in very high resolution images.

I haven't got mine yet- I was one of the preliminary copy crowd. Have those been shipped? Any other east-coasters received theirs yet?

Wayne,
Just got my rebuild book yesterday, and not a moment too soon. I should be receiving my top end back from CE within a few weeks. I started reading the assembly instructions from setting the p/c deck height onward. Very thorough, easy to follow and all around, well put together. My confidence level has significantly increased. BTW: I'll be ordering another for the garage, don't want to stain the autographed copy;) 8-12 hours to dry fit the cam towers, time the cams, check for interference, take it all apart and reassemble....sheesh;) Thanks again....... P.S. DTW, Got mine yesterday. Virginia. |
Wayne I recieved your book today!!! Wow, I used the preview copy for my first rebuild and had to take my engine apart again to linehone. This book has me excited again. The pictures are incredible, both on the cd and in the book. Thank you for the most informative book I have ever read.
