G50 Trans clutch questions
Going to replace the clutch and other components on a G50 trans.
Did it on a 915 years ago. With the G50, what's required to separate the trans from the engine? Specifically, how or where to disconnect the hydrologic clutch. If disconnecting the line, how to bleed it later? How does the shift fork become disengaged? Any other tricks to the trade. Thanks, Chris 89 Carrera ![]() |

The slave cylinder is actually "self contained", meaning you detach it from the gearbox (two nuts) and it comes off with the hydraulic line attached/pressurized. It's a little actuator with a rubber boot on the end. The rod coming out the boot engages with the shift fork inside at the clutch interface (through a little hole in the case). Anyhow, you can separate the engine from trans without disconnecting hydraulics (or having to re-bleed later). The cross-shaft is first removed (one bolt from the retaining bracket), which retains the shift fork inside, then the 4 nuts holding the engine and trans together. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Lyle, makes perfect sense. Have a good mental picture now.

Chris, for separating the transmission from the engine, you will need to remove the cross shaft that holds the release fork. From there it's business as usual.
Re-assembly involves using duct tape or similar to hold the fork in place while mating the two. Then the cross shaft gets installed. Good luck
