Any one have manual cam chain adjusters?

I know you should have carrera tensioners; Wayne, I know your opinion but here's the deal:

I've got a fiend with a 78 SC that I'm helping replace the exhaust side head studs including several broken ones. He's got manual cam chain adjusters, the aluminum ones with the bolt and lock nut for adjustment. He doesn't want to spend any more money than he has to to getting the car running. Once running, he doesn't plan to put many miles on it.

So the question is, has anyone had a major problem or failure from running these adjusters?

There was a dude just recently (can't find the post) who had a chain that got stretched way out of spec because of the mechanical chain tensioners. These are meant to be used on race motors only, that will be run for a number of hours and then torn down. They are *not* meant for street cars. They will not compensate for stretching of the chain, and as a result, your chain will begin to flop around (if it's not doing that already).

Mechanical chain tensioners are only good for race engines.
