Mag. case for Porsche Historic Racing.
Gents.
Running the Historic class here in Europe, where the cars must have HTP - Historic Technical Passport - to be as authentic in the class. I am running the Porsche 911 2.3 ST 1971, and Porsche did race these cars with the mag. cases and therefore we have to. But this was 46 years ago. Now we are struggling with finding some useable cases and make them stand the task. When we find some useable cases the pricey bit is all the machine work that goes into make them to racing engines. But now we are seeing some of these mag. cases are becoming more and more fragile and the chance of cracks in these cases after 1 or 2 season is getting more and frequently. You would say, why not find some Alu. cases like the 930 or the 911 1965-1968 alu. cases but this is not allow because of the rule of HTP. Now there is a rule that states if the "part can´t be found and if the factory don´t make or selling this part, A corresponding part can be produced with similar dimensions - appearance and function". So i was thinking is there anybody how are making the 2.2 mag. cases in alu. - i don´t think so. It wouldn´t be cheap, but can this be done.? and is there anyone who any experience about this. Thanks - Cheers - Olsen911.

Hi Olsen,
I haven't heard about anybody reproducing these cases but if you are stuck it is worth contacting these guys in Germany. info@puetz-motorsport.de +49 177 7977 771 and ask for Ingo. These guys build, maintain and run around 8 cars in the Historic series over here and they are always finding cases that can be converted for racing. Hope this helps, Jason.

I'm making the 2.0 and 2.7 cases soon, after I get done with the 3.6.
I have nothing for you right now, but check out my site in my signature. Yes, this is for real - check out the NEWS tab for current progress. |

Were there not privateers with their SWB cars still competing in '71 still with their sand cast alum cases intact?

They were likely running in the 2.0l class.

New cases would be great but in the interim, 911 Vintage Parts info@911vintageparts.com has a large selection of 2.0-2.2T mag cases that should work well for your application.
Using the T case makes sense because most of them were never stressed or overheated. I believe they have over 130 air-cooled 911 engine cases on the self. Ken@ 911 Vintage Parts (760) 731-4911 ![]()

For what its worth Bonomelli (THE most famous Italian Porsche privateer) raced alum case short stroke 2.3 in '70 and short stroke 2.5 in '72. Both in a SWB.

I would surf the Early S site. A little snip from Targa Florio...
(Snip) Quoted from Andrea...(see case material and engine size) "I see that Targa Florio's real racing cars have those combinatons: Alu 2.0 (906)SS 1968-1969 Alu 2.2LS 1970 Alu 2.3SS 1970 Alu 2.4LS (very rare, 1971) Alu 2.5SS 1972 Mag 2.2LS 1970 Mag 2.3SS 1970 Mag 2.5LS 1971 (with 901 or 911 gearbox, with or without coolers) and when i spoke with some italian racers they told me " we mounted all the Porsche news trying to maintain all the old pieces we can (eg engine case) because Porsche pieces were extremely expensive !!! Porsche 911 new case.
Gents.
The project has been started and on its way.! We have a long way ahead of us, and we need all the experience about case design and production to be incorporated into the design of these new engine cases. After production we will select beta tester, among those who have contributed to the project and they will put these new engine cases to the test. Anyone wishing to contribute to the project, please contact me. Thanks - Olsen911 - Tommy Olsen.
