Sounds like you’re getting good help and advice and taking the right steps.
Re: rod bolts, I realize I wasn’t asked, but I wouldn’t look at that so much as a “while you’re in there” thing as much as a preventive measure to avoid a failure of a known weak spot for the 3.2 engines. A thrown rod is the outcome you’d be risking, and when that happens you’re usually looking at replacing half of the engine to fix it. Case, crank, the failed rod, the piston that was attached to it, rebuild/replace the head to start. Plus whatever collateral damage. Rod bolts are pretty cheap. |

The intake valve stems are way out of spec, something we see a lot in these motors.

With your new pistons, please check piston to cylinder clearances. If you don't have the tools to do it, send it out to a local machine shop (does not have to be Porsche/Euro specific) to measure them for you.
Cheers

I should have mentioned that. John Walker told me to do check that when I was considering installing the "new" pistons. It was done.

Good afternoon Cabmando - what cam did you end up choosing to fit on your rebuild?

After doing a lot of research, I decided the stock cam was sufficient. I just couldn't find the benefit for the cost associated with new cams.

I was hoping you’d go with the 993ss and report the results!
Otherwise looking forward to seeing the results of your rebuild. |
