Oil Cooling
Well, I've had all the machine work done, got the modified cams, checked and reconditioned all the reciprocating parts, raceware'd the appropriate fasteners, overbored the cylinders, got the custom high compression JE's, twin plugged the heads, got the crank fire setup, rebuilt the MFI, got the headers with cookies, the whole kit and kaboodle is ready for assembly except...the oil system needs to be finalized.
I am planning on installing a C2 oil pump in my 2.4 ltr case and I am going to run 16 AN aeroquip hoses (non-exterior routing) to a front mounted cooler in a modified RS front valance... I would like to eliminate the engine mounted oil cooler but, I bought a new oil tank some years ago and I would hate to start welding on a fitting to it to replace the "S" hose. Additionally, I was told that the thermostat in the case and a thermostat in line to the cooler were unnecessary. I am a little concerned by this though because the thermostats, while constricting the flow of oil, do help to raise the engine to operating temperature much quicker. Thus, a happier engine...in my mind. I heard that the RX7 oil cooler fits well in the opening but, I haven't seen one installed. Any one got any thoughts or suggestions on this setup? Thanks in advance. Rhet P.S. Wayne, love the books, I just got them in the mail a week ago...Good Job! |

Good choice in oil pumps! The 993 and 964 function fine w/o a crankcase t-stat. You can eliminate the c/c cooler and keep the stock 'S' hose w/ one of these
This one has an upsweep to clear B&B headers. Here is an installed pic on my car Do be sure to retain the external t-stat!
