This is great Fred, we talked about these for my SC at the engine built class last year. Great to see them in the flesh.... I'll have to see if these will fit within a budget of mere mortals... might have to put up or shut up on my engine with these and some good cams.

Good to have you in the community!

OK Fred, you and everyone else here know wayyyyy more than I. I have a stock 3.0 SC that need a top end. Which would I order and/what benefits would a stock motor gain? It sounds to me, a novice here, that you guys are all talking about hot rodded motors?? Or, what mods would I need to make them work with my engine? Cams etc. I know more that you want but I have to know what to buy.....
Thanks
Sean

Sent a PM the other day but this post sums up my winter rebuild project. Trying to limit the scope creep to P&C + cams but at the same time want to do it right. Mine is a '78 SC with headers. Thanks for any input.

I am so sorry to hear that Fred has passed but wanted to see if there are people out there that have paid Fred a deposit and are waiting for pistons. I know mine were close but getting coated.

Do you all think it makes sense to contact Jerry Roche and let him know before he sends more piston orders to Fred as his wife might be overwhelmed right now?

dwa917 12-17-2022 01:23 AM

love to see this thread stay alive with the results of builds from Fred's pistons - and / or continued development based on his design... RIP Fred

Rusty911 12-17-2022 05:23 AM

I talked to Fred’s son, James and he’s managing the 9 piston orders that are in process. If someone needs his contact info feel free to give me pm.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the out reach of support from the members of pelican parts as my family works through this time.
My Name Is James Apgar Im Fred Apgars son, I actually sat down at my home computer to create a log in to update this thread for my father and found my dad had left his account signed in.
We will be continuing with piston production, right now in the interim no deposits are being taken as im trying to get everything square away with current orders. I will be fulfilling all of the current orders in a timely manner. Please feel free to contact my fathers screen name if you need anything and I will gladly pass my contact info along.

Thank you From my entire family.
Your community amazes me
James

Sorry for your loss James. I never met him but your dad seemed like a good guy.

dwa917 12-18-2022 12:28 PM

RIP James… no words suffice… big hugs…

mepstein 12-19-2022 05:25 AM

James - I’m sorry for your loss. I used to catch up with Fred on his way to your house. We would meet in Middletown Delaware. Meeting up with Fred was like talking to a Porsche celebrity who immediately became your friend. Best to you and your family.

James, all the best to you and your family. I got to know your dad this year on the phone and via email. A true gem, as you know. Lost my father this year as well.

Prayers are with you and your family.

All the best.

Cheers

Very sad to hear Fred is gone. After reading many of his helpful posts and fascinating stories I was so happy to meet him at Tony's engine rebuilding class in 2021. He immediately impressed with his knowledge, approachability, generosity, and willingness to engage with my 'creative' ideas.

Class act and a cool dude.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Luckily Matt B was willing to wave the admin queue time for me so I am finally able to access the forum from my own user name and contribute.
From one car guy to a group of car guys- you guys rock.
I’ve read every comment and thank you. My dad was the ultimate car guy to me and was a wealth of general automotive Knowledge as well as Porsches. He also passed along all the principles and some of the knowledge of going fast to me.

Currently we are caught up on back orders.
If anyone needs a set of pistons please shoot me a message we have a few in stock. 3.0-3.4

James
