What kind of locknuts and nuts should i use when i assembly the engine. Is it okay with stainless or should i get aluminium or something else ??
I was told that the nuts should come with the gasket set but that was not the case (only the washers came). I can of course order them by the porsche dealer but that will probably take 2-3 weeks so if i can pick them in a regular hardware store that would be great. Metric is no problem for me

Hi Peter!
Regular zinc or bright cad-plated nuts should be fine for *general* applications. The nylon insert locknuts that Porsche uses, seem to be of a quality that resists heat better than other common ones. You can buy those from a dealer. I wouldn't use SS fasteners anywhere. Where corrosion is a problem, use some Nevr-Seez or copper grease.

Don't waste your time doing this. We just spent hundreds of hours creating a hardware kit using all Original Porsche hardware and Wurth (OEM supplier) hardware. It's right here:

The part number for the M8 locknut with the higher temperature rated insert (used on the valve covers) is 900-084-004-02. I'm not aware of an M6 lock nut with these characteristics that is used on a 911 engine. The M6's I know about have the wave type spring washers under them. Cheers, Jim

While we are on the subject...
Does anyone know how the oil appears on the end of lower valve cover studs? (A) Does it leak past the gasket (surrounding the stud) and then follow the stud threads? (B) Does the stud hole protrude though the cam carrier and the oil follows the stud threads from inside the cam carrier? (C) Does it comes from the valve cover permimeter and just collect on the end of the studs ("nose drips")? -Chris |

Where is Wurth hardware made? What are the markings on the end of the bolts? (Yes, I know the bags it comes in says "Made in Germany").

No, I was thinking of the the nuts on the breather cover, throttle console, etc. I forgot about the chain cover locknuts; I'll look them up tonight. The higher temperature rated insert type locknuts typically have a black, blue or brown colored insert. If the insert is white it is likely not rated for higher temperatures. Then there are some locknuts like the exhaust and the intake nuts which are of the all-metal prevailing torque (distorted thread geometry) type. Jim

Thanks Jim,
They would be very expensive considering freight, customs and sales tax ( which is 25 % in sweden, welcome to paradise ) if i bought them from our host. If Wayne decides to stock inside EC he will get all my business

It's only a question of what your time is worth to gather up all the hardware. Count on about 100 hours - that's how long it took me and my guys...
