I received the last of the subcontracted work. This from Competition Engineering in Lake Isabella, CA Cases cleaned, checked line-bore, oil galley plugs removed and bore scoped, oil squirters flow checked. Crankshaft plugs removed, passageways cleaned, micro polished (Still 0/0). Flywheel balanced, whole clutch, flywheel and starter ring balanced.

Looks purty. I love the sheen of polished machined steel.

Similar to the smells of a tire shop. Or gasoline from the 60’s.

Is your plating process from Caswell or someone else. They sure look nice!

Thanks, yes it is a Caswell Plating equipment. They can provide everything from Brush Plating to full commercial equipment. Plating and Anodizing.

Here is my setup. I built the lower electrical box, it is a Process Controller to control temperature. The Power Supply for plating is variable current. The liquid temperature which is not an exact science, but for predicting the final outcome, keep a constant and find the sweet spot on time and current. I’ve processed a lot of projects.

The Yellow Chromate is used to Protect the Zinc, and the Zinc protects the Steel.

I plan on sending all my sheet metal and engine mounts to a powder coater. Waiting on a quote back.

Meanwhile, more plating and now I started on the engine shroud and the fan. The fan was pitted and found a paint color that I like. Made by Ceracote, I’ve chosen Satin Magnesium. I still have a few pits I need to take care of on the fan.

I built a small spray booth to paint some parts. I could have sent them to a body shop and been $$$ ahead, but i’ll use it for the remainder of my life.

More Zinc Plating, but the plating is almost finished.

Like many of us, live long enough and do just about anything.

Wrench and raced Motorcycles in my early years, Hot Rodding cars in my teens, aircraft manufacturer Flight Test Mechanic and then Field Service Engineer. Drag Racing. Worked on Space Shuttle then large satellites. Senior Staff Design Engineer on satellite handling and fueling equipment and transport equipment.

So motorcycles, street cars, funny cars, Fuel Altereds, Gas Dragsters, airplanes, military defense fire units (Tanks), Scud Missiles, Titan and Space Shuttle Payloads, Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE). Systems Engineer. Helped my two brother-in-laws build their houses, designed and built my 1,200 sq ft workshop almost myself, room additions on my house.

Finishing hopefully the last of the zinc plating in the next few days. Tubs of new and newly refurbished parts is growing. When I don’t have anything more to clean and refurbish it will be time to get to assembly.

Started assembling the lower end. Checked IMS end play, crankshaft end play, and IMS backlash.

Nice job on the build, neat and clean. Careful with the sodium dichromate it is a carcinogen.
