Engine rebuild

I’m at the point where I need to rebuild my 3.0 original engine. I’m considering the options. Since I’m looking at sinking so much $$ into a rebuild I’m considering all options. Who has experience buying 3.2 engines?

Is there a resource for finding one or am I just going to be hunting and cruising eBay? Thanks in advance for advice on whether to swap or not, and if so, how, and what becomes of the original engine?

Should I keep it or sell it to offset cost of a 3.2. I’m inclined to keep it original personally.

If the car is all original don’t sell the motor, keep it. Buying motors is always a crapshoot regardless of what the seller tells you. If you got money to burn buy a 3.2 and shelf your 3.0. Or just build a nice 3.0 nothing wrong with a well built 3.0.

Too little info. You didn't even say what year car or how many miles. Keep the CIS or change to carbs or EFI? Budget? Etc.

If I were buying a complete engine, I would only buy one from a recently wrecked car that I could be sure of the miles and condition before the car was wrecked. Otherwise, as DP says, it's a crapshoot.

I have a rebuilt 3.2. Elgin performance cams, pauter rods, euro compression, clevite rod bearings, coated main bearings, reconditioned rockers, reconditioned injectors, etc. If I’m selling with Ecu and harness, it will be $35k. If interested, PM me. Mark

Right now it’s a long block but I can dress the engine and have it ready in 2-3 weeks.

there is a nice 89 3.2 motor for sale here on Pelican for a good price. You might want to consider a 3.6 also

So, you have 2 options... rebuild the 3.0L ( and in the process, make it killer!!), or spend the $$$ and buy a used 3.2 or 3.6L. All the options above will work. It all depends on the depth of your pockets.
If you buy a used engine, you could very easily be buying someone else's problems! If you rebuild yours, at least you know you have got a solid engine, and will enjoy it for years to come.
It is all based on your $$$. A used 3.6L will cost you as much as the full rebuild on your 3.0L especiallyif you go with go fast parts ( 3.2L SS, carbs or EFI, higher compression, headers, etc etc)

I just got in a used 3.2 that was traded for a newly rebuilt 3.6. Good running condition. I’m not sure of the history since it’s not original to the car. Reach out to me if you are interested. Mark@MarkEpstein.net
