Case welding

I need the piece where the fan mounts on a 964 case repaired (welded). Any recommendations other than taking it to an experienced welder to be repaired? Should I have any issues with that portion of the case cracking again since it is where the straps attach that hold the fan housing?

That is a relatively easy weld for a competent Al welder.
If the engine is out and you can move it, all the better. Otherwise you will need to find one who can bring the gear - prob a bit more difficult.
But yes - it can be fixed.
Ideally he would want to be able to get to both sides. In this case not likely so may not be as strong as optimal, but should be do-able.

Ben/MB911 has done that sort of repair for me on aluminum cases. Easy job for him. Wrap in a moving blanket, drop in a plastic crate and ship it to him if you don’t have someone you trust nearby.

Whoever does it may ask for the fan housing also - to get a good fit. Needs to be quite precise.
What happened to cause that?
Strap overtightened?
