2.0 MFI rebuild question

I have a 69 2.0 MFI E motor. Time to rebuild.. looking for a bit more out of it.
What can I do and still be able to use the MFI I have? I understand it will need to be recalibrated.

About $2500 to 3K, I want to do much of it myself.

btw, Read your 101 book and just got your rebuild book. Love them! planning making your recommended upgrades, but I don't want to go crazy on this small case.

Hate to say it, but I had a budget like that. It went bye bye. The thing that really killed it was worn piston ring lands. This meant that I needed pistons, and at that point, I decided to increase displacement.

I think that you could find some 2.2 cylinders, have them bored to 85mm (resulting in 2.25L), and get some JE pistons with 9.5: compression ratio. This, along with the standard rebuild stuff, would likely exceed your budget by a bit, but it would get you to a little better than 155 HP, with a nice increase in bottom end response, and you wouldn't have worn pistons.

Think carefully before you sink a lot of money into your case. I was going to install piston squirters in mine, but then realized that I could get a 7R case for $300 that, amongst other things, had squirters and would accept 90mm cylinders. An advantage of using reconditioned biral cylinders is that you wouldn't need piston squirters, making your 2.0 case more usable.

Your MFI should be fine with this kind of modification. From what I understand, the pump is calibrated to match the camshaft. This relationship is more imortant than displacement. Of course, the pump would likely need to be richened up a bit.

If you need some biral cylinders let me know. I just happen to have a set!
