Random find
Does anyone know why someone would put these gaskets between the heads and camshaft carrier of a 3.0 1979 engine? Just feels like a lot of effort for no benefit.
Gasket was quite thin so don’t think it was a spacer. ![]() ![]() |

That's interesting. Never seen those before. I guess they made them out of gasket paper?
Assume it was because they thought it was a superior method to seal rather than use 574?

It was an old method of spacing the cam housing back out when the cylinders were cut shorter to increase compression.

They can be used to compensate for shorter cylinders but when we made them, they were actually used to compensate for seriously machined heads.
The reason to machine the heads was to create a smaller combustion chamber. We make some for our "peanut head" modification. The proto-type was used in this 2.5 SS liter race engine. We made 11.5:1 compression with a 2.7 RS piston. This engine used a 2.0 crank with Titanium rods. ![]() ![]()
