Can anyone tell me the specs that make a 3.8 an RSR?
Obviously P&Cs but what I am interested in is cams, intake, MAF, and the like. Unfortunately Wayne's book does not go above 89 and Adrian's is not out yet. Is this a reasonable build from a 90 3.6? Thanks Brian ![]()

Sort of. You could use the 102mm/109mm spiggot p/c 51.5mm and 43.5 mm PMS valves or 52mm and 44mm undercut aftermarket ss versions, port, AASCO valve springs/retainers, Carillo rods, 3.8L RSR racing cams Intake duration 293.7°, exhaust duration 278.3°. and MOTEC engine management plus a thousand other little bits and pieces
You then have ~350hp non streetable powerplant that cast ~$30k. Is that what you really want? When shopping 993RS engines last summer I found a few 3.8RSRs ready to go in the $25-30k price range from a very reputable source.

Adrian is a fella who has a book in the pipeline about 964s and later, but you knew this already.

Wayne - I am assuming also that you know who Adrian Streather is - Only of my own fault I bought your book without looking at the description close enough - I have a 90 3.6 with 150K miles on it - it will need to be rebuilt - even though it runs very well, no smoke, some leaks, and so forth - I saw you are looking for a donor 3.6 for additions to your book - my 3.6 is a candidate - but it wont wait years - you want me to deliver it - lets say October or November?
I am seriously looking for input about 3.8 RSR specs - got any? I just want to build the best motor for the buck - any input is welcome - you are the "DIY Porsche Engine God"as far as I am concerned - 3.8 is a serious question about added horse power and so forth. Seriously - anybody 3.8 specs? By the way Wayne - your book is the best - just does not fit the details of 90 up! I tend to look again and again for 3.6 details - I still reccomend it to anybody with any P-car interests - mine is autogarphed. Brian

Given your budget and starting w/ the '90 C4 engine. Here's what you do.
All normal rebuild stuff from rod bolts to valve guides and head studs, from clutch(do use a light weight 1 piece clutch) to chains plus Wayne had some 102mm slip fit pistons awhile ago. The 964 versions are different from the 993 versions, get the correct version. 52mm undercut ss intakes, 43mm undercut ss exhausts, 993ss cams, port clean up, ?enlarge if $ allows?. '95 intake manifold including MAF, harness and a custom chip. Most of this is routine rebuild, have the head work done at a reputable shop. The heads will need some other work to use w/ the 102s to update the sealing surface between head and cylinder, and need to have some of the fins welded together. This will give you a solid 300hp very streetable, reliable engine(if 93-94 octane is available)

"Adrian Streather" - hmm, the name sounds familiar, but I still can't place it.
I'm not planning on doing the 3.6 supplement for a while, but I figured it will be done eventually - particularly as these cars get older and need more attention. -Wayne
