2.7 vs 2.2 mix and match question

I'm rebuilding the top end of my 2.7L. The camtowers, rockers and camshaft from my dissassembled 2.2 look to be in better condition. Is there any difference in these components. Are the camshafts the same I haven't dissambled the 2.7 heads yet to look at the camshaft part numbers.

The cam towers are the same and the rockers need to stay with the camshaft.

Which type of camshaft is it? T,E,S?

The 2.2 was a T motor and I assume the cams are a T configuration.

You can put the T cams on the 2.7 but those cams are very mild. I would want to put S cams in a 2.7. Also what Pistons are on the 2.7? If they're CIS pistons you really can't run any other cams other than CIS since the valve clearance is very small.

Tim, thanks. I do have the CIS pistons so I will use the original cams. Thanks for the input. By the way do you see any problem with installing the heat exchangers from the earlier engine. Sounds like all the books agree the 2.7 with those "burner boxes" (can't remember what they are called at the moment) didn't help in keeping the motor cool and were just a constriction.

THe reactor exhaust is just a vile form of emmisions equipment. I would definitly use the early exhaust. Infact it's a common upgrade.

Sounds like a good plan. I am also intending to use the rebuilt heads from my 2.2 since the heads seem to have the same chamber. With the 2.7 cams and the CIS pistons do you anticipate any problems with valve clearance. I cannot see any difference between the heads.

The heads are the same but the 2.7 heads have a slightly wider flycut I belive to accomodate the larger cylinders. Your porsche machine shop should set them straight. You shouldn't have any clearance problems but I'd definitly test for it just in case
