strange valve noise

tapping in motor so i pulled valve covers and found the
recently adjusted valves out of spec again
i thought the nut had losened but it was still tight
so i thought i had wronly set the clearance
on further examination if i push on the cam side of the rocker arm
it seems to make contact but if i keep pushing in it like clicks and
goes in further making a loud clanging noise
is it possible the cam tower is worn and my cam is teeter
tootering on the middle bearing or is it more likley that the
rocker holding pin or rocker is worn oblong causeing the double movement and subsequent loud clang
thanks for any and all input
tony

yes rocker arm
Wayne I cant tell if the cam is moving or if the rocker arm
is moving back and forth on the shaft the loud noise when pushing in on the rocker is louder than what seems it should be for the
rocker to be hitting the cam thats why i thought it was the cam
moving plus there seems to be hitch halfway down and then the loud clang.
i was just wondering if there was a common problem with this
scenario before i dig deeper
thanks for the help
tony
